Description The bitterly sweet melody echoed all around, the soft flute, pipe and soft drum beats caught outsiders attention to enter the Market place, where human slaves were forced into cages like animals. People bought them for any means possible, home slaves, labor slaves. and even erotic slaves.
but that was not all the market held, traders, sellers, even a small tavern where men got foxed off of the ale, at least what the vile men could get their hands on. crowds of people entered the market day and night, each of them with different findings. some just curoius, nobles, merchants mostly rich folk came for the slaves for their own uses. cruel creatures, Marlene McHaley said bitterly to herself, her hands passing over her cage bars, cold, hard steel, just like she felt deep within. usually she would be sleeping, but she couldn't the echoes of Candle's music filled her with sorrow. the poor child, Marlene thought to herself. the girl was only thirteen, Marlene had been here since she was Candle's age, her now being nineteen, she thanked God for her life, for she was still alive and untouched. she hated the leering stares from the gents. the looks never stopped. but with Marlene's infamous reputation of almost murdering the last man who touched her after her being sold meant well, except she got a bad beating from that afterwords. guards ripped and yanked at her clothes she fears there will be not enough cloth to cover her private parts. the pungent dirt on her body made her grimace, once her skin was a glowing light tan, and she once was dressed in the best of the courts.
her long hair that once proved to be sun kissed blonde looked dirty and dark. making her clear blue eyes fade with the dirty color of her hair.
her petite frame, looked fragile and bruised. but yet it still appealed to men. "bah!" she said aloud hitting the bars. with every quick passing day her memories of home grew farther away she hardly could remember.
the soft melody had seized and Marlene's eyes wondered towards where the girl was chained to the wall, with only one hand free to play the flute, that pure glass flute that sounded like three instruments in one. and Marlene caught glimpse of a tall cloaked figure who stood above the frightned Candle.
Marlene's face grew grim, once again another innocent will be sold to the not to well being they called human, why the same kind of species and here they were lusting after a slave to use and dispose of after. they were lucky the cage was the only thing in Marlene's way. Marlene smiled wickedly at the rock that lay just near enough to her cage she could reach it. she quickly got down on the ground and reached her hands through the bars and grabbed the rock that was the same size of her hand. she stood and before throwing it at the tall cloaked figures head she yelled "hey you filthy bastard catch this!" and she threw it. inches before his head his hand came up and caught it leaving Marlene with her mouth gaped open. his emotions never changed but now the cloaked figure now gave her much attention, she could see now the color of dark hazel to his eyes. but his face she still could not see because of the hood of his cloak that concealed his features.
he took slow strides towards her cage and stopped infront of where she stood, with only the bars to the cage giving Marlene room to breath without the stranger so close. "what do you want?" Marlene hissed with all the hate she could muster. she saw his ghostly smile, his teeth white and the smile soon disappeared as he grew serious again. his strong hands reached to his hood and off it went revealing light brown locks of hair that touched at his nape, and some of it coverd his misty eyes. his frame now Marlene noticed, lean and hard with muscles. when she ntoiced how her eyes wondered him her eyes shot up and collided with the warm dark hazel of his gaze, and boldly he raked her body with his eyes as boldly as she had done. she sneered in disgust and turned away trying to stare at the wall hoping he would just be gone from her cage. but he wasn't she could feel his presence. "why won't you be gone? im not for sale you know so whats the use of considering it" she said truthfully only a moment reading his thoughts. "figured me out have you? why not? everything here is for sale" he said smiling somewhat amused. his voice huskey and firm. from the corner of her eye she saw Candle, frightned creature as she was, poor child if only- her thoughts drifted back to the tall stranger, her mind reached deep within his, he meant to buy Candle! she would not let that happen, maybe if she were to....
"it is not me who you seek stranger, but the young girl" at that he smiled.
"ah.. so you have read that far, yes true but"
"leave the child be" "why? it is me who is free and not you, of course I could exchange for-
"me"Marlene said through clentched teeth. he smirked now, just like a fox about to kill its prey, Marlene would have none the better to smack the living daylights out of the stranger. "yes"
"are you mad I would-
"uh uh if you do not want to exchange in the childs place I have no choice but-
"no! buy m...me" Marlene felt the only pride she had vanish, but the thought she saved the girls life from rape, abuse and anything far worse it was worth it. all she thought was better me then her. "it's settled then, I shall call upon the guards-
"no one more thing"
"what?"he said raising a thick black brow.
"pay for her safety"
"what! out of the question!"
"please, you already have me sir, I will be in your debt"
"damn right!" he mumured. without a word he grunted and disappeared into the crowds of people.
Now it was Marlene's turn to smile and she smiled ear to ear, her eyes locked with Candle's even though the girl was mute through her eyes Marlene saw the girls thanks. What length Marlene had gone to save another,
she felt weight lift off of her shoulders and thank God! Marlene waited nearly an half an hour at least until she saw the unmistakable frame of the stranger, her new master. What misery lies before her, she knows the worst. could she bare his disgusting touches, or his rude comments, would he treet her like the other slaves had told her their tales of masters or mistresses. the beatings, the neglect, the hunger! Marlene could feel the fear in every inch of her body. he drew closer and what she saw in his hands; keys, and a silver blue collar. just like the others, she thought. he put the key in the hole and quickly the door swung open. without the quick movements of Marlene he still stood cautious, thanks to the guards telling all of her rage and quick attacks.
"you costed a ton!"
"well of course i am the best little wench in all Mesapainia you know" she said mockingly. the stranger frowned and opened the collar, "put it on"
"what ever for! we all know as well as I do, if I wanted to escape i'd be gone"
"truly?"
"no because just recently I caught glimpse of your sword" she snapped. he looked down at the sheath at his side and he smiled at her. "oh that, just for sercurity"
"right "
"master"
"what!? I do not think so"
"really now" he said glancing towards Candle, when he saw Marlene grimace he knew he hit his target.
"what now slave?"
"master" Marlene hissed wanted to lunge out at the stranger but he caught her arm and twisted it tighly behind her back, and with his free hand put the collar in place. "damn you !"
"master" he corrected her. Marlene ignored his rudness but winced in pain from the pain she felt as his grip tightned. he frowned and loosened his grip and faced her towards him, boldly he raked her body with his dark hazel eyes once again,
"your not in bad shape a bath and a change of clothes would do you wonders"
"thank you for scoring me at top appeal" she said unduly sharp. He grabbed her forearm and walked her through the crowds, once or twice she stumbled from colliding with someone. and her new master didn't acknowledge it. Damn the brute!
Marlene stared blankly at the one horse he untied from a large log on the ground. Marlene smiled at the nice breezy weather, this is what she missed the smell of wild flowers and roses. the wind sinking in her dirty hair. when she saw the master watching her she sneered and his eyes wondered towards her rosebud lips. Clyde reached into one of the sadles pockets and revealed a long lenth of rope. "what ever is that for?!" Marlene said narrowing her eyes. Clyde smiled at the filthy slave.
" you figure it out can't you read minds"
"rarely, only when I have to" she said still staring bluntly at the master.
"well since you rarely use such a gift as yours I will tell you- he said walking closer towards the slave with the rope in his hands. Marlene stepped back fearing he would wrap that piece of rope about her neck.
"Im going to ride on the horse, while you walk"
"walk?!" Marlene snapped. Clyde smiled wickedly and tied one end of the rope to his sadle and one tightly around her wrist.
"are you touched in the head! im bare foot in the hot sun! I'll have blisters before the day is done!" Clyde mounted the black mare and looked down upon her.
"not my problem if you do, you are not a person you are my slave"
"why I never- you will regret this ." Marlene stated grimly. Clyde frowned and hit his heels on the mares sides, and off the mare went. pulling Marlene along, she stumbled forward hearing the masters chuckle made boiled her blood to raging heat.
Now and again she could see his ghostly smiles, and she wanted to ring her collar around his neck and choke him to a bloody pulp! Marlene couldn't take it anymore she was tired, hot and most of all hungry beyond belief! she stopped finally but as soon as she caught her breath she could feel the sharp tug of the rope, this time Marlene didn't fall forward or stumble but pulled as well taking him by surprise he fell back falling off the horse.
"what the- Marlene failed to keep a straight face her laughter echoed all around where they stood. Clyde quickly stood, dusting his clearly new tailored dublet , he marched towards her. "why you little- but something else caught his attention.

this shows an ability to verbalise powerful images, which is important to any writer who hopes to capture the attention of an audience...

however, it seems as if the names you chose for the characters are a bit too contemporary- they should fit more with the scenario you present..

the writing style reminds me a bit of William Burroughs, and his Martian Chronicles, where women were viewed as objects and property, to be tamed and owned by men...

my only real suggestion for this piece- change the character names to more accurately reflect the world you are conveying with your writing style- unless, of course, they are characters that have been 'snatched' from our contemporary reality..

wow
thanks wow, alot for the comment, no one really gave me a descripted view for it, yes, lately I've been looking and reserching on stuff, and some writers say in order to make the story believable, the names are really important becasue it should fit the story, thanks for pointing that out, I've been meaning to do that, but can't think of the right names.
thanks
