Gray Wing's death is how you do Warriors deaths properly. You feel the life being sucked out of you on the last few pages.

I started reading Thunder Rising before realizing it was the second book of the series but it honestly doesn't seem like I missed much?Β
But yeah Gray Wing is such a nice character and I definitely see where you're coming from with the Thrushpelt part.

How about that Clear Sky?Β
He literally tails every single cat that Grey Wing and Thunder were into, excluding Turtle Tail.
But Grey wing was into Storm and Bright Stream and Clear Sky goes and knocks them up. Not to mention Star Flower. Literally he goes for anyone his brother or his son has a romantic interest in. Fuck Clear Sky.Β

Yes, Dawn of the Clans is definitely a step up for the series. The only thing that bothers me about it is the fact that, besides the mains, none of the characters are very memorable for me. (Except for Lightning Tail, who is honestly precious).Β

while i definitely agree that a good amount of the characters are super forgettable and change personalities to fit whatever plot device is being used (the ashfur before ashfur smh) i think they were pretty good at writing the few characters who they did pay attention to (also yes 100%)

Yeah for sure! Gray Wing is really enjoyable as a protagonist and I found myself both liking/hating Clear Sky a lot. River Ripple and Thunder are cool as well. I hated Wind Runner, but I will admit, she had personality. Poor Tall Shadow though... not so much.
The only other thing that bothers me is how many forced romances are shoehorned into this. I mean, poor Gray Wing went through Storm, Turtle Tail, and then that Slate (? was that her name ?) ... Clear Sky went through Bright Stream, Storm, Star Flower... like damn guys. :'D
Otherwise I am actually super happy about this series. Compared to the fourth series this is an amazing jump in quality. I was a little iffy after reading Sun Trail (I didn't get invested until the end) but now I can say I am a huge fan.Β
