Hi! Great tip!Β Where is a good place to get universal dye, in store or online? Also, do you know if it would be best to start with clear or white prosthetic adhesive? Thanks a lot!

Hey Travis! I saw your message on the Black & Nobo Facebook page, and I sent you a response. But for anyone else with the same question, I'd like to post a response here as well. You can buy universal dye here: www.highlandwoodworking.com/ti… . They have a bunch of different colors. As for the prosthetic adhesive, the clear stuff will work better with the tints-all, it will take the color better. The tints-all is great, it is concentrated pigment and it can be added to anything - paint, glue, resin, pourable plastics, etc. It will work really well with the prosthetic adhesive. But if you don't want to buy the universal dye, then I've heard that acrylic paint can be used as a dye as well. I haven't tired it with the prosthetic adhesive, but if you're feeling frugal, maybe you want to give it a try!

Can you explain more about prosthetic adhesive? Β Is this something that can be removed and reused again? Β Also how do you make it? Thanks!

Prosthetic adhesive is a glue meant for your skin, it's what you would use to attach latex prosthetic. For example, if you bought elf ears you could use prosthetic adhesive to attach it to your skin. You can't resuse it, once you apply it you need a prosthetic adhesive remover to take it off. It's cool stuff! Here is a place you can buy it! www.amazon.com/Ben-Nye-Prosthe…

ooooh - would spirit gum qualify?

Spirit gum will definitely work for attaching a latex prosthetic, but as a tattoo? Hmm... I don't know for sure but if I had to guess I would say that it wouldn't work. The yellow-ish color might cause an issue when your adding dyes, and it's a little bit more gooey and thick than the prosthetic adhesive, and might not be painted on as smoothly and evenly. But if you give it a try and it works, let me know!

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any ideas about how to do very large scale, detailed tattoos? I'm specifically going for Newt from Pacific Rim and was thinking of painting the tats of a sleeve or something. Not quite sure what material would be best and how to get it to not obviously look like I'm wearing sleeves.

Well I wasn't familiar with the character, and I agree with you that sleeves would be a good idea. If you used prosthetic adhesive, you would have to paint all those tattoos on and remove them each time. I actually have another tip that will do the trick!
