As it would turn out, Meln the Mouthless was just as dead as Myrkvanna herself. As a ghost, the Telvanni Magister's soul had been trapped in a black soul gem by none other than Master Shelreni. Speaking to his spirit, Myrkvanna discovered that in life, Meln was in possession of one of Hermaeus Mora's Black Books, known as "The Tormenting Eye." These eldritch tomes were sacred to the Daedric Prince, and Meln's murderer was returning to claim his. While there was not enough time to stop Shelreni's forces from taking the book, Myrkvanna pocketed Meln's soul gem, believing that the Telvanni Magister's wisdom would come in handy later. The connection between these seemingly disparate events to Apocrypha's fate was starting to become clearer.
