With the races over and the winners announced José already mentally closed this chapter. There was only the afterparty to deal with and then the "cleaning up". Nothing big, an amazing event over and noted down as a success. It felt very nice to have another race on his grounds, as this was the discipline he basically grew up with.
He was so lost in thoughts that he completely missed, that the official award ceremony wasn't even over. All because the winner in question wasn't even aware he was addressed. It needed Grace's gentle poke to bring him back into the now.

Realizing no other than Simon himself approaching him was already a little bit much, given he didn't even know the context, but seeing why and what he had in his hands... yeah, that brought quite a bit of color to his face.
Feeling not only overwhelmed but also a little pressured to behave appropriately, he bowed in a way that was respectful and supporting Simon's endeavor to put the sash around him without making him feel uncomfortable due to the height difference.
Even with the wonderfully designed award around him he could barely grasp what just happened. Being honored with such an award meant quite a lot to him, even if most might not deem him as such.

Wowza, well, if that wasn't a surprise for dear José. Being picked for such a special award was a little overwhelming for the poor man it seems. And then getting it handed by Simon whom he had the pleasure to face several times now (not only since the Olympics, Toronto was the earliest he saw him live, even if not meeting up back then). Funny how things go at times.
