[Backstory Start] - [Present Plot]
It was a late morning, dark clouds shutting out the light of the sun, and a layer of fog covering the town below the elevated dressage field. The weather gave off an eerie and gloomy feeling. As if something was hiding, waiting for its chance to strike. It was only a matter of time.
Salvador spent quite a bit of time to prepare Vida. Not only in the warmup but also in fixing his appearance. The tack was on point, every buckle polished, every piece of leather spot-free. They were representing a very beloved establishment with years of culture and tradition. For Salvador there was no room for slipups. He would not allow errors. It had to perfect. If only the weather would take notice of this and cooperate.
When they headed out to the dressage arena rain was falling, not too strongly to immediately chill you to the bone but still enough to make the following a quite challenging task. Salvador had full trust in Vida though. He had proven himself already by being one of his most talented horses despite his human's injury, which forced the stallion to adjust himself to some, at times, a bit difficult to read signals. Looking at them now only a keen eye would reveal the slightly different way of giving cues. They worked hard to make it barely visible, to keep the impression of perfection.
Salvador entered the dressage arena with Vida, both having their head high and with a stride which gave off a calm and collected appearance. Stopping on the fitting spot he greeted the judges in an appropriate way. His formal attire alone was sign enough that this would not be a dressage kür as expected by most visitors. The music rose in volume, its melody spawning memories of the South, impressions of times long gone but still valued up to this day.
And then Vida moved and left no room to second guess what this was going to be. "Dancing horses", just one of the many titles the equines presenting Alta Escuela in their hometown were called. Especially the white ones, Cartujano. To have the privilege of presenting this art outside of their home was something very unusual, and he would make sure to leave an impression.
Vida, despite the weather and the wet ground, was sure-footed as ever. Every step precise albeit a bit eager. He was lacking his father's longing for absolute perfection, leaning more to his mother's fiery and passionate temper. Something Salvador cherished and valued since it gave the stallion a more natural appearance while presenting such fine, artistic, moves. While his father was more like an orchestra with every single part perfectly attuned to each other, Vida was more like a cheerful family that gathered to sing and dance. Both had their qualities and Salvador appreciated them equally.
Piaffe, Capriole, Levade; Vida enjoyed displaying what he had learned in those years. There was always a deserved break between the moves, a time to collect and regain energy before the next big display. The last pause was a bit more long-drawn though, for a good reason. It was like the weather itself finally complied. The clouds had finally opened here and there, giving space for the sun to break through, its golden rays illuminating the surrounding area and wrapping the duo in a golden mantle. The rain did not stop though, its droplets bouncing off of the pair in the arena, like little crystals flying through the air.
And just in that moment Vida rose to display one of his most stunning moves, a true masterpiece of equestrian art.
