This painting was inspired by hours and hours of playing Call of Duty 2 and 3 on my Xbox 360. I think I did this about 4 months ago but never posted it. We all know how terrible WWII was, or any war for that matter, but something about the iconography of the German soldiers is fascinating to me. The soldier's helmet and the red flags are reminiscent of WWII but with my own take on it. I envisioned this being some kind of future ad campaign for enlisting soldiers at the end of the world. I was going to add text to it digitally but thought it might ruin the piece, so I left it alone. Hope ya like it...Related content

i could see this as a war campign, and the right person using it could use it as a pro or anti war.
i like the way the black kind of splatters into the red, and the skulls against the red. it looks good.
and i like your take on the gasmask.

This is totally awesome. Haha, yeah Call of Duty is a drug. I love how you did the gas mask, and especially the skulls. They totally remind me of Neville Chamberlain XD Just add obscure amounts of facial hair, and half and brain...

Hrm I like this alot i love the use of colours, funny you say its reminicent of WWII for you because it reminds me of vietnam...i was about to mention it before i'd finished reading your description...but for some reason yeah Vietnam it reminds me of...i like it quit alot

this is pretty hardcore. I don't know what it is that gives gas masks such an ominous look, but my take on this picture is almost like a human-created need to drift away from what makes us human. Like through war with machines, we're slowly becoming "machines" ourselves.
I just might write a poem/song based off this now

Awesome, just awesome. The coloring and the simplicity I guess, like the fact that it's just head shots of skulls and the bloke in the gasmask. Not to mention the few colors used, but that's just my impression upon seeing it.

hey man, liking this piece. probably my favourite from your gallery, i'm really interested in the imagery from the first and second world wars, some of the propaganda poster design in particular. i can definatly see the influence in this one. been trying to work with this theme myself on some of my more recent printing work. the black is so solid and imposing in the image. the splatters and little figures coming out of it remind me of ralph steadman a bit. anywhoo shutting up now

but yeah. how do you get such a dark black? i've tried my hand at inks (i stick with watercolors, mostly), and i just never got such brilliant colors...oh well...
WWII wasn't all that bad. i mean yes, people died,but without wars we would overpopulate even faster. without hitler, some of our moden ways of thinking wouldn't even exist.....but thats no way to make friends, now is it?

the composition is really effective, love it. the colours remind me a lot of Jhonen Vasquez's style, which would make sense since you like him...and who wouldn't, he's amazing. I really love the spattering of the black ink at the back...it's simple but really effective....really nice
