Description "There you have it. You thought, you'll get away that easily, after what you've done to me? You destroyed it all; all what we have built up over this time - it's gone, forever. Things will never be the same. And this here is what you deserve..."

Inspired by the three songs listed below, I made this image. The picture's message (read more about it a paragraph above) is partially based on a real-life story.

Feel free to drop comments or even favs, I highly appreciate them!

--

Edit (11 Jun 2009): Well, after a whole day of working on this image, I'm proud to present the final result to you. What's new:
- the entire color scheme was adjusted to fit better to the theme
- a few mountains were added in the background
- the city was given a more painteresque look
- the platform in the foreground with the person was completely redone (so much work for a few pixels....)
- some minor edits scattered all over the place

--

Edit (20 Jun 2009): Okay, so here is the final version. Mad props fly to *priteeboy for giving me so much advice - without him I would've never been able to update it (I wonder if there was a point where I was just getting onto his nerves. Probably ). Thank you at this point again!
Well, what's new? As you can see, the houses were totally re-rendered, the starfield was remade, the person was redone, smoke was added, and the center of the city has been "destroyed"; just to mention a few of the many edits. Interestingly, I worked longer on the update (~18 hours) than on the initial picture (~12 hours)
Rendering the cityscape took another 50 hours, just for the sake of statistics.

--

Edit (6 Sep 2009): After noticing that my monitor was wrongly calibrated all the time, I had to make some color adjustments since it was too dark before. Also changed: buildings have their own texture now (they were too even on the surface), some hovering buildings were put down, the platform's texture was redone (less pixelated, better perspective), the man was slightly edited. All in all, 2 additional hours of trial and error.

hey was there any 3d software involved in rendering buildings? if not, then this gets mad kudos!!

I did use a rough base for the buildings but since I was fairly new to 3D-programs, I decided to repaint them in Photoshop. Hope I got some things cleared up

Ok I gonna be a bad boy now. sorry
The idea is awesome, but..they are some things I dont like.
I like the fire but, I really dont fit there, It looks non-realistic, not very good blended, maybe just I see it like that, but I rly dont like the flames :/ I like them only on the first buildings, the closest ones to that man (sorry for my english) ...
The shadow and the lighting on that man is done very nice and proffesionally

If I have to rate it..It would be ..7/10 sorry

this is captivating both athstetically and emotionally i think what draws people in is there ability to relate to a piece of art, and you've done that masterfully.

Don't know what you did to get the buildings, it almost seems like they were carved into a Vue terrain, if so - then that's a clever way of making a base-scene for your work. Using primitive in boolean groups to create geometric, structured shapes might help make some basic building models in Vue itself, I think this great 3D peice was done in Vue alone [link] it would go hand-in-hand with the provided building materials Vue comes with

Another critical point is lighting, here the scene seems uniformly lit. The sun-light in Vue would have been best made coming from where the moon would be and given a blue-ish colour and dimmed down (suggesting this is at night) which should make a rather dark city. But then add various point-lights given red or orange colours and varying levels of power and place them randomly amongst the buildings to suggest light coming from the fires

Those far terrains look like seperate renders postworked in, I do that sometimes since I can freely move around pre-rendered things in Photoshop which makes the whole scene easier to edit...but when you do, get the 3D parts all in the same lighting/atmosphere scenario so they all match...here the Moon would be the main light source, but ethe foreground seems to be lit from a light source behind us to the right, and the back hills are lit from yet another invisible light behind us to the left

Stars don't look too bad, maybe less though, it's hard to see stars when there's so much light from a city (especially if it's on fire I would have made the stars much dimmer and more sparse as they got near the horizon...The moon could have been a bit yellow or orange-coloured too, however it was postworke din nice and naturally
