I've always admired Caravaggio, but the impact of his work didn't fully hit me until I went to Rome and saw it in person. His version of Judith beheading Holofernes inspired me to do an updated one.I wanted to make Holofernes look more like a modern soldier, and I wanted Judith to look more like the seductress that the story hints at.
