There's no ethical consumption under capitalism. Activision Blizzard was garbage when they laid off 300 workers after one of their most lucrative years in their history as a company. When they already barely pay taxes and their CEO is worth BILLIONS. They were garbage when they helped push lootboxes and other gambling mechanics designed to prey on gamers into the mainstream

They're garbage now, when they chose to censor one of their tournament champions in a cowardly attempt to protect 5% of their stocks owned by China

Fuck those in charge of Activision Blizzard. I hope the protesters in Hong Kong continue to use Mei as their mascot, because I don't just want fictional stories of heroism and freedom fighting, and I don't want to just play lip service either. I want real world change, and that's what they're fighting for in Hong Kong. They want freedom from China, from police brutality, from unfair and inhumane treatment.

I stand with Hong Kong.

I repeat, there's no ethical consumption under capitalism. I believe it is possible to like and celebrate something while also criticizing or outright disowning the people who made it. Me boycotting blizzard is a pretty hollowaction; I don't give them money in the first place, but I do create content using their characters and yeah, that's technically free marketing. But it's also content for the community of friends I've made, it's also often queer-oriented subversion of Blizzard's canon designs and stories, it's also something I deeply enjoy doing
