I spend a lot of time on this and it was much pleasure. Especially that we found common language with a speed of a lighting ^^ But there's still so many mistakes and places which could be improved : x ;n;
Anyway I'm so glad that I could do this portrait c:

A little step by step is now on my Tumblr bluari.tumblr.com/

Ahh, okay thanks ^^. I don't think straight guidelines like this are good though. Everybody draw how they feel.

yeah, I don't like straight guidelines that much either, but the only reason im talking all "oh, I know all the wolfie facts" is just because wolves are my most favorite animal in the whole world, 'specially anthros. also, im kind of a perfectionist...

I really love the coloring on this one, so soft.. and the color scheme is very nice also! I love how the background is such a warm color as a contrast to the colors of the wolf. You made the background with water colors right? Do you make the background first and then do the character with colored pencils? How do you make the coloring so smooth around the character? do you use some sorta template to cover the area of the character as you use the water colors? Or do you just color avoiding coloring on the character and then fill in blanks with colored pencil?

so many questions ^^ sorry, I really love this piece *admires in awe*

I posted some stages of work bluari.tumblr.com/ First is of course the sketch, then first ink layer and when it get dry then goes the second, watercolour layer for darker places. I'm trying to colour background and the character at the same time, it helps in getting colours and shades right.

With some experience and soft, white pencil is very helpful . If the watercolour layer will be covered with pencil, some small edges can stay unpainted - pencils can get there much easier and the difference is almost invisible.

Nope, it's masking fluid for that kind of stuff. But I'm not that scrupulous yet and that watercolour layer is light in comparison to what i do later with pencils. If I paint some detail wrong I can just correct it with paint later xP It's making things easier and  a bit less awesome but I'll get there. So it's the second answer

It's okay, I like answering questions thanks you! c:

oh nice and thank you so much I was just asking cos I've done only little mixed media works and lately I have started to like using water colors more and more with colored pencils so I wanted to know whether you had any good tips for that since you do it so well and thanks for the tips very much! That wip progress thing was very helpful and it was interesting to see how you do it

and I thought so, I also feel like a template or masking fluid would be too much work since you can fix the possible mistakes pretty well later on

no problem! THANK YOU!

Mixed medie isn't difficult in this way. You paint underlayer colour, so you don't have to be precise, and then you do details with pencils which are easy to be precise with. And it's much fun and experimenting c:.

Masking fluid is magics, I'm sure there are some tutorials in the Internet. Professionals do incredible tricks with it.

oh no, thank YOU
