this is interesting, are you committed to being an anime artist or are you trying for something different?

If an anime artist is what you want to do, go for it girl. Its your life.
Now if they tell you not to do drugs or get really drunk the night before an exam or something like that.. well, I'd listen to them. ^_^

i liked the line work you did on her hair and pigtails.

If you want to do anime, remember that the style is based on realism, so maybe try and get some practice with that. you can just do sketches of people in magazines, etc. That'll help you develop your anime style and take it to the next level...

i'm wondering, is there any artist you hope to be like one day? anime-style wise?

[link] [link] and hellobaby [link]

i like their use of colour. but for hellobaby, i like the elegant flowing style. why?

I just wanted to see where you wanted to get to or what you're going to be. Those artists don't incorporate a lot of realism like this artist [link] whose anime work i look at; so i wasn't sure what kinda artist you want to evolve into.

cool.
i can sort of see similarities in body shape between your work and claparo-sans' and how he may have influenced it.
For me though, my biggest influene is traditional paintings (oil paintings). i spent half an hour staring at one artwork in the gallery . nothing else can capture my attention like that one painting. and that's what i aspire to paint like. unfortunately i can't remember the artist's name.

I don't look at claprao sans for inspiration, they're just an artist i follow. I really don't pay much attention to anime artists in genneral, I don't particularly like the style...

oil is a great medium to manipulate, many artists over the years have done amazing work with oil.

haha, i guess i'm drawing connections where there are none ^__^
the anime style captures my interest because of the sheer amount of expression and variation that you are able to imbue the artwork with - you can see the character's personality on the page.

unfortunately i'm not allowed near oil due to the sheer amount of mess i make. so i'll bide my time and stick with acrylic and water-colour.

well you do pretty well with digital. why not just stick with that?

^_^ People just don't seem as impressed by my digital artwork - my paintings on the otherhand are loved. Plus I love doing them. It's a cool feeling having a painting that takes up a square meter so that you can be envelopped in that world. And also the feeling of smearing the paint is fun.
Plus my art teacher thinks I'm better at painting and I'll take her word for it. Unfortunately I can only paint at school. How dull
but I'm glad to know you think I do well with digital. ^_^

traditional is a great medium to use. I never learned any painting techniques other than markers and colored pencil, so digital has been good because I'm a real neophyte when it comes to coloring...

I think digital can be just easier because you can create things in a variety of mediums, without actually needing to buy the supplies and learn the mediums.

i was never really taught how to paint or anything, i just decided to paint after having seen my friend do it. and i found it was awesome. so i'm a real ameteur - but that isn't any different to anything else i produce, so i'm okay with being an ameteur painter. and i get what you mean about colour. i really only draw with pencil, and that's about it.
There's no denying that mucking around with the mediums is fun. and i love the fact that you can duplicate things as well. ctrl z has become my favourite thing too. it provides less stress, knowing that a mistake won't waste any supplies.
What I find with painting though, is that it does help you to get a grasp on colour as you are forced to define shapes using shade.

definitely not having that background makes me a tad uneasy when it comes to coloring in general. I learn via playing around a lot, but with color there is almost too much to do, an inordinate number of directions to go...

blue-eyed-bee In reply to spartan-locke [2012-08-29 09:48:21 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i play around a lot, and when i'm stuck i either draw the same picture over and over, or do a tutorial. the pure freedom of having so many directions to go is thrilling though and knowing there is so much unexplored ground.

and this is why a lot of people never get past the basics in art.

the irony of that? you can do a ton just with the basics. some of the best artists i know only do one thing...
