yes. more flying filipino food. drawn from that phase during the holidays when all my attempts at art ended up being about levitating filipino food (see gallery for the horrors mentioned). the boy's parachute-blimp's a fanciful reworking of a local snack food known as Sundot Kulangot (literally, Poke the Booger). contrary to what its name might imply, it's not made from booger, but rather, from browned sweetened coconut milk (i think). after cooking, it becomes very thick and sticky, and is placed in little split pitugo shells which are then sealed with red rice paper strips. they are then placed between two bamboo strips which are tied at both ends (as shown in the image). a long stick of tingting (i think the heart of palm leaves - yes?) is provided to poke the gooey stuff when eating it. the balloon thing that keeps the girl afloat is called siopao. it's a dimsum taken from the chinese and is really a steamed rice-flour bun with sweet pork filling.
