Description

Primary PC: Jalaluddin Khan (custody shared with

Name: Sunitha Eiman

Nicknames: Suni, Sunny

Age: 126 years old (Entered the Aionios Woods in 1759; Arrived in Sybal Heim in 1790; as of 1896 has been in Sybal Heim for 106 years).

Physical Age: 20 years old.

Birthday: August 25, 1739

Height: 5 feet, 2 inches; 157.48 centimeters

Hair: Black

Eyes: Dark brown, looks like smoky quartz when hit by the light

Faction: Disciple

Occupation: Seamstress

Sybal Form: Tankap Puli (“Golden Tiger” in Tamil)

  • Golden tiger centaur

  • At her full standing height, all four paws on the ground and torso straight, Sunitha is roughly 6 feet tall.

    • She worries her height, strength, claws, and teeth intimidate people. It has scared off several potential suitors for various reasons.

  • Sunitha wears a veil or hijab to cover her hair and tiger ears around anyone not within her mahram (those who Muslim women can show their hair).

Sybal Power: Tigress Threads

  • Sunitha can ‘pull’ the stripes from her sybal body off and turn them into strong magic threads that can be used in a variety of ways. Stitching a wound, mending fabric, tying objects down, etc.

    • She doesn’t have to physically pull the stripes off, but she does have to at least direct their movements with her hands—like a conductor leading an orchestra, almost.

    • She is limited to the number of stripes on her body. Once she is out of stripes, she’s done for the evening.

      • Stripes cannot be reused or put back on her body.

    • The threads aren’t easily broken. She can decide to weaken them herself, but normal human strength or typical knives/scissors can’t cut them. It requires superhuman strength or a weapon/power strong enough to break.

    • By daytime, the threads lose their magic strength and just become regular golden thread. Sunitha hopes to design some special articles of clothing for herself with her power, but this can take years depending on complexity.

Docile or Feral: Docile.

  • Sunitha has a very strong handle on her emotions both during the day and evening. This may be a result of having to power through a great deal of trauma in her Outside life, or simply a strong will and sturdy personality.

Personality:

  • Independent

    • Due to her past troubles, Sunitha does not rely on others easily. This isn’t to say she is immediately distrusting, she just isn’t used to having others who are willing or even available to assist with manual or emotional struggles. It can be difficult to soften her and get her to lower her walls, or accept help.

  • Stubborn

    • If you’ve seen Bridgerton Season 2 you’ll have a darn good idea of the stubbornness Sunitha possesses.

    • She’d be a very successful speech & debate participant in modern times.

  • Virtuous/Strong in Faith

    • Sunitha is a devout convert; she follows her faith to the best of her ability. Though she does not shame others for practicing other faiths; she was raised Hindu and respects that many still find comfort and security in her original religion, as well as the others in the City.

    • Gives eagerly to charitable causes, as part of the Five Pillars of Islamic faith.

  • Romantic

    • Her several attempts at finding a husband, barring the marriage outside of Sybal Heim, have been unsuccessful. By the time she meets Jalal, Sunitha is worried she won’t ever find someone who is compatible with her.

    • She wants to be happily married, but has several scars from the emotional neglect of her ex-husband and abuse from her ex-mother-in-law give her multiple doubts about her ability to be loved.

History:

  Pre-SH:

  • Born in Bangalore, Mysore Kingdom.

  • Member of the Dalit caste

    • Father was a servant to the Mysore army; was killed during conflict

    • Sunitha blames the war for her father’s death

  • Was married by a member of the Brahmin caste

    • He approached her about the marriage as a way to preserve her well-being, and Sunitha believed he did care for her at first.

    • Shortly after they were officially married, however, it became apparent that he still looked down on her for her caste status, and her mother-in-law refused to acknowledge her properly.

      • She was treated as a charity case, and constantly felt belittled and ignored—even if her husband had meant well at the start.

      • Mother-in-Law abused her outright; Sunitha has emotional scars from this toxic dynamic and it has impacted her self-esteem when approaching relationships.

    • After years of feeling neglected by her husband and outright abused by her mother-in-law, Sunitha took advantage of approaching warfare to escape her marriage, choosing to risk her safety over remaining miserable for the rest of her life.

Within SH:

  • Officially converted to Islam

  • Trained under several seamstresses in Heilig before opening her own shop that caters specifically to fashions for Muslim women and the Middle Eastern-to-South Asian cultures.

    • Her shop is called the Tiger & Peacock, referencing two animals of high cultural significance to her Indian heritage, and is located roughly two blocks from the Souq proper.

  • She has attempted to find a proper husband through halal Muslim manner multiple times, but none of her attempts prior to 1896 were successful.

    • Some simply turned out to be incompatible, one wanted her to give up her business to be a housewife, another lied about a gambling problem, and a handful of them found her sybal too intimidating.

  • Meets Jalaluddin Khan in November of 1896

    • Originally intended to help another Muslim woman, Aisha, court and marry Jalaluddin as her chaperone.

    • Her and Jalaluddin developed an attraction to one another and in early 1897, Jalaluddin began courting her instead.

    • They agree to marry and have their nikkah (marriage certificate signing) on March 15,1897

    • Their walima (the “reception,” like the big actual wedding party) is held on July 10, 1897; they move in together afterwards, into a house Jalaluddin purchased for both of them.

Bonus Information:

  • She loves cinnamon. Her father used to buy her cinnamon or treats made with it with what little extra money he could manage to save up. It reminds her of him, and grounds her when she is facing a particularly frustrating problem or having a bad day.

  • Her favorite color has fluctuated over the years, and can be noticed if one looks at her collection of fashion sketches spanning her entire career. But the ones she returns to most often are greens and blues.

  • Gifts can be an uncomfortable subject. Her ex-husband used to buy her expensive things often without consideration for whether she’d actually like them, and seemed to see it as “doing enough” for her and leaving her emotional needs unmet. This has caused significant discomfort during her attempts to find a husband in the City.

  • Catnip has an effect on her sybal and as such, she tries to avoid it at all costs. She doesn’t know if it’s halal or haram, and feels terribly embarrassed about the first time she encountered it and wound up acting like a drunken kitten for several hours.
