Third place contest prize for: Alanna Punch

I seem to be on a roll today. Here's another one of the contest prizes. Alanna requested a picture of either a Totodile, a Croconaw or a Feraligatr. I figured I could use some practice drawing Croconaw, so here he is, in all his active, predatory might! Or something like that...

He looks bored out of his skull. Heh.

He looks like he's wearing pants!

Well, the markings remind me of those fur-clothes you see cavemen wear in cartoons.

True true!
Imagine if all you could see of him above water were the eyes, that'd be scary

Oh hey, welcome to the club~ ;D

Your Croconaw are so muscular and fierce looking! The webbed feet are a nice touch!

Thanks! And I'm glad you like it. I've grown to kinda like the buggers. I used to dislike them, but not anymore. ^^

It's great that people draw pokemons with their own style. I usually don't like croconaw, but from your point of view it's so cute i could just sqeeze him. :'3

I used to not like 'em very much either. I didn't really like the entire evolutionary line, but ever since including a Totodile in my comic, they've kind of grown on me.

It looks like he's swimming in an aquarium I love how you take the pokemon and apply your own spin to the design. Do you color everything in photoshop?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to meroe1313 [2008-10-09 08:32:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's all been done in Photoshop. I don't even draw my lineart on real paper anymore. XD

Well, sometimes I still do, but usually...

"Apply my own spin to the design"? Most people just tell me I buff 'em up. But your way sounds cooler

meroe1313 In reply to Blue-Uncia [2008-10-09 16:06:40 +0000 UTC]

You don't just "buff 'em up"! I've seen many "realistic" drawings of pokemon, but yours just have a unique look about them that is instantly recognizable. You try to make them true to their original design but also apply more anatomically correct features. It's awesome!

Blue-Uncia In reply to meroe1313 [2008-10-10 16:50:27 +0000 UTC]

Heh, that's the nicest review I've had so far!

Yeah, I do try to figure out how the existing designs could be made to 'work' in real life. So I try to make the pokes look like real animals, but it doesn't always work out so well. XD

meroe1313 In reply to Blue-Uncia [2008-10-10 23:56:45 +0000 UTC]

The pokemon based off real animals are definitely easier to convert than the... well, odd ones.

Yeeeaaah... The odd ones... I just try to stick to the original designs of the really weird ones, likes Magnemite...

meroe1313 In reply to Blue-Uncia [2008-10-11 15:58:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they don't really need too much altering, since they aren't that difficult to draw anyway.

Blue-Uncia In reply to A-lie134 [2008-10-03 15:33:26 +0000 UTC]

*plays "Jaws" music*

Very nice. Croconaw always seemed kind of silly to me, with the caveman pelt design. This, however, is a credible predator.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to Paruser [2008-10-03 08:33:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I always thought it looked like a caveman (or even worse; an easter egg) too. Lol.

But under water, all those flashy markings tend to fade away.

I always thought that too! I think that's what they were going for. I think that's why Croconaw has always been one of my favs. I prefer him over Feraligatr.

Blue-Uncia In reply to babygomamon [2008-10-03 15:31:53 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I think I like Feraligatr better, although the easter egg reference does make Croconaw attractive too. XD

xSheepi [2008-10-02 23:20:24 +0000 UTC]

oooo Croconaw!!!

I've always loved this guy, and believe it or not, you just made him even cooler!

the water texture, and how it reflects on his skin looks terrific, and excellent job on the anatomy, th muscle definition -on his arms especially- is fantastic.
i think though, that its his expression which is what I really love; its so sleepy.. but remains completely badass at the same time! He reminds me of those crocodiles that lie-in-wait in the water, looking all bored and lazy, completely unresponsive even as you get closer and clos-*snap* and out of nowhere they just eat you!

another really excellent job!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to xSheepi [2008-10-03 09:09:28 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that's a great comment! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it!

And yeah, I really wanted to go with the 'bored-ou-of-my-skull-look', so I'm glad that turned out well.

His dangling arms really bring the laziness across too, don't you think? XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xSheepi In reply to Blue-Uncia [2008-10-03 10:12:15 +0000 UTC]

oo you're very welcome!
yeeh i gotta say it again; that expression really is superb, those lazy eyes just say so much..
the dangling arms are fantastic (anatomically flawless as far as i can tell), and they just work perfectly with the rest of the body position, it all just comes together so well!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to xSheepi [2008-10-03 15:35:08 +0000 UTC]

'Anatomically flawless'? Lol. I dunno about that. I think his left arm might have two shoulder masses, rather than one, but I do like how the hands turned out.

Which is weird, because I usually mess the hands up. XD

Well, most crocodiles look sleepy when they hunt. It's their strategy. They WANT you to think they're lazy and then, when you get closer... SNAP!!
