Description Scrappy gag is scrappy. So it'll be scrapped later... XD

I know a lot of people seem to think that the messenger hawks in Avatar are some sort of super-pigeons, in that they can fly to more than one destination. I'm actually willing to believe that bit, but NO animal can be told to fly to a place they've never been to before. Heck, even a human would have a hard time finding it without detailed directions.

But the main reason why I drew this gag is actually because the show never revealed what happened to poor Hawky after he was sent off on Mission Impossible. In fact, Avatar had lots of loose ends, as great as it was. It's fun to make a little fun of them every once and a while. *smirk*

PS. Ignore the fact that Sokka's neck band disappeared after the first panel, kay?

Yeah, it does. Still, the show was better than most. I think the loose ends where due to them trying to wrap everything up fast in the last season.

I think it would be great if they made a few epilogue episodes (or even one big one) in which they took care of everything.

My brother was convinced there would be a book called 'Air', but somehow I always doubted that, since Aang already WAS an Air Bender. XD

It would have been perfect for tying up the lose ends, but without a villain I think a fourth book would have been redundant anyway.

yeah, it kinda would, but they could always make one up yknow?

Well, I suppose so. If they could find a good overall plot to go with it, that is. Personally, I'd already be happy with a large epilogue episode, in which the loose ends got tied up.

lol That is NICE. I knew they had different hawks for that reason, but I don't recall the avatar's group having a hawk.

Well, actually in Avatar people seem to make the assumption that the hawks can fly anywhere, even to places they've never been before. And all you have to do is tell them where to go. Like they'd understand any of it. XD

I always thought that was weird, because I know that pigeons don't work that way at all.

And yeah, they briefly had a hawk. I believe it was for just one episode. Sokka bought it and eventually sent it to the Earth Kingdom to deliver a letter to Toph's parents. Something along the lines of: 'I love you and please don't worry about me'.

After that, we never heard of the poor bird again, which made me thing of this gag.

I began to watch the episode, but it got really late and I never went back to it. Anyways, on with the disscussion that I forgot the topic to. XD (This one may be dropped as well. lol)

It was about carrier pigeons vs. Avatar hawks, and how the hawks should never be able to work the way they do in the show. XD

lol yeah. THey only go towards their mate. But I have to wonder, are they only usable when they have a mate? what if the mate died or chose another one cause it's mate is always gone? How bout if they don't have mates, or can't get one due to appearance or ability? I don't think that would help anyone.

Ha ha ha, nice! I love the expression on the soldier's face.
The owls in Harry Potter manage it. I'm willing to chalk all these super-smart birds' abilities up to magic xD

Blue-Uncia In reply to Amjam [2009-07-18 08:40:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, now that you mention it. But where the HP owls may just be super smart, I don't see how that is possible in the Avatar-verse. I think the smartest animal there is Appa, and I doubt even he would be able to go somewhere he's never been before, especially with little to no directions...

Most animals seem to be like Mo-Mo at best. Reasonably smart, but still completely incapable of understanding humans.

Except for the dragon-hawks. They're like living, breathing, handheld GPS systems. xD

The dragon-hawks? You mean from World of Warcraft, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Amjam In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-07-19 07:33:07 +0000 UTC]

No, from Avatar. Er. The messenger hawks are commonly called dragonhawks in fandom. You know, all the animals are conglomerates.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Uncia In reply to Amjam [2009-07-19 07:41:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know that. Most of them are hybrids. But not all of them. I always thought the hawks were one of the few more or less uniform animals there. And I'm pretty sure that in the show they were always called 'hawks', not 'dragon hawks'.

Then there was also the Earth King's bear (Basco), which was just a bear.

Amjam In reply to Blue-Uncia [2009-07-19 07:54:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but among the fans, they've been known as dragon-hawks, so it's second nature to refer to them that way. Sorry to confuse. You know, a lot of fanfic/meta/roleplay calls 'em that, force of habit.
