I'm teaching a class! 'How to Paint in Photoshop'. I'm really excited about it. I'm going to use this piece to explain the subjects of 'lineart' and 'layers'. ^^This is the part in the movie--in case you didn't know--where Ariel gets her voice stolen from the Sea Witch.
EDIT: Ursula. Ursula the Sea Witch. So none of you think I don't know her name.

I just wrote a story in FFVII form using that song, actually. Kinda funny!
But this scene always fascinated/scared me as a child. My favorite bit in the movie too. I always imagined what I would do if I was Ariel. Would I give up my voice and what would those hands feel like in your throat? UGH! Makes me shiver!
But this picture looks wonderful! Almost as though Ariel is hypnotized by those hands!

*Sigh* Your art style never ceases to amaze me. Even though this scene takes place in the water, and the claws reaching for Ariel's voice are wisps of smoke, and her heart must be pounding against her breastbone, it's like you have managed to eliminate motion entirely. As if you've paused time, in the crucial moment where Ariel is no longer able to save herself from the decision she made, when her voice is loosed from its place in her throat and about to leave, when the entire ocean holds its breath.
Gorgeous.
Good luck with your teaching, by the way. I bet you'll be awesome!
