Someone requested Merlock on tumblr and my hand slipped. I drew a sand creature instead!

And then I wrote this:

Blood. John’s will to live flows from his shoulder in waves of red and hot and pain and please, God, let me live. His life soaking into the dirt, the granules prickling against his skin.

The heat slowly becomes less hot and the pain slowly becomes less painful. Darker, darker, down and down. Sand in his mouth, in his eyes. Pressure. Warm and prickly. Then smooth as glass, gliding over his mutilated flesh with a firm, glazed palm.

Opens his eyes. A face. Corroded and brittle. Clumps of sand and dirt falling from his hair, his nose. His mouth, curling into a smile. Vitreous teeth gleaming in the blinding light of the sun.

"Shh." Sabulous voice. Gritty smirk splitting his lips. "I’ve got you."

John believes him. Relaxes into the scratchy embrace. Because dying isn’t so bad. Not really.
