Great shot! The bird is wonderfully focused, background is nicely blurred, and the dominating green is beautiful.

hehe, thank you
this one was pure luck, happened to be in the right spot at the right time

I love birds! they're awesome and pretty hard to get good shots of (in the wild), but I'm trying to diversify myself as much as possible

do that... well, now I gotta ask: what did you change on that photo? I can't believe the colours and this awesome blur on the tail of the finch just turned out like that... and what lens did you use? please enlighten me...and do tell me what I should improve on sofia's eyes
merry christmas!! (better to wish it early, with different time zones and possibly american habits of celebrating on the 23rd and such)

On this photo all I really did was a slight exposure compensation and sharpening a bit. I really hate sitting on the computer and doing post work. The most time I'll spend doing post work is on multi-shot ski/snowboard pics (such as this: [link] )

As for the lens I used an 80-300mm don't remember the brand at the moment.

You have a good Christmas also! lol American's celebrate it in the 25th like every other countries but sometimes people have present opening on the 24th.

lol your snowboard pic looks pretty much like a rendering if you did it with a tripod (I do think so), why not capture different stages of airtime?
well, I thought you'd done more on your finch, as I said, colours and blur look to good to be true you must have been very lucky OR camping for a long tome as to what I do on pics like sofia's, let me strike out a little:
first, I run it through lightroom, adjusting temperature, single color hue/saturation/luminosity, noise, vignetting, exposure and highlight/shadow lightness. then I run it through photoshop and do the same more finely. THEN I suddenly see that there are freckles, shades and generally unsmooth skin on the face which I gotta get rid of. when I'm done with that, I see that the rest now looks artificial, and work on that too. THEN, I realize that there are single hairs strutting out from the mass, which require for immediate and utter annihiliation. after a few hours of such messing around, the picture is technically closer to a painting than a photograph.
or in short: you really DONT want to see the raw xD
well, I'll get to work on it once more immediately. or draw a naruto for a change. whatever exactly that is.
and as of christmas: I wasn't sure whether you guys celebrated on 23rd or 25th. we do it today, on 24th.
and don't you mind me writing complete novels right now, I'm pretty sauced at the moment^^
have a nice 'un,
alex

Well the snowboard pic wasn't taken with a tripod so I had to spend hours in PS fiddling around with it to get what I wanted. What do you mean by "why not capture different stages of airtime"? (yes I'm being daft today D: )

I was just lucky on this shot

are you SURE you need all that processing? <_< lol like I said before I don't like messing around with my photos for a long time. Could you perhaps not smooth the face off as much as you did? it looks a bit plasticy now that I'm looking at it (again).

noooow time for me to do something constructive (hopefully).

Hay thar young one.

I'm sorry, that just popped into my mind when I saw this.

I like how she (is it a she? I can't tell..) looks so ladylike, perched up on that little stalk, almost like she's saying "I demand better quality birdseed."

Again, I know absolutely nothing about photography, but I've noticed nearly all your bird photos either have a black background, or a sharp focus on the subject, and a blurry background. It looks great and all, but if you take a step back and look at your gallery, it looks kinda repetitive. To me anyway.

Madam, the high quality bird seed is located in the exclusive part of the bird feeeder.

O_O pedo bear? mebbe I should take the bird pronz off my DA >_>

Yep this is a lady bird maybe she does want better bird seed and mistook me for my mum who always fills the feeder, "I would like to file a complaint with the manager...." hehehe

The black background is something I can do nothing about in some of the bird photos but the shallow DoF (depth of field) is something that's pretty much the rule in nature photography just so that you can see the subjects clearly but I see what you're saying and I'll try experiment with a more in focus BG.

where is the exclusive part of the feeder? >_> that's where all the nice sunflower seeds are isn't it?

It was a random thought, pay no heed to my madness. D8

Oh, she must be lost. She wants the help desk, not you. The exclusive part is the bit where the seeds are served on a silver platter, and there are little heaters there in winter for those who didn't make the migration, or who were too lazy too.

You didn't see that bit? D8

BlueFlamedPhoenix In reply to projectTiGER [2009-07-03 19:09:12 +0000 UTC]

but I lurves your madness D:

The silver platter is now a dull grey >_> I want heaters over my food in winter sounds like fun (actually mini heaters for my feet in winter would be uber awesome too)
