I like the 1930-1950's cartoons and movies,
most of the new ones get super boring easily and are overratedΒ
#bringbacktheoldmovies
i don't really like 3d movies and computer animation movies because they are hard AF to Β Β Β makeΒ and they are (in my opinion) ruining the old Walt Disney movies!
ask a 5 year old what you like about Disney and they say like "princesses and songs"
or they "look so cool!" But Walt Disney put a lot of fucking effort into creating mickey and the old traditional animation and these days all we care about is the stupid digital shit
thats unoriginalΒ

For the most part I agree. Although cartoons from the past had their ups and downs and their strengths and weaknesses, a lot of them still have a great level of nostalgic value for me. And not only that, but a lot of the shows we had back then had a lot of potential to be so much more than just TV shows. Back in the 80s and 90s, cartoons had some balls and originality. And if you ask me, I'm glad to have been born in and to have grown up in a time when cartoons had balls and originality.

i guess im one of the lucky ones me and my dad yes my dad, used to tape Swat Kats and we have both complete seasons one and two i still watch it to this day it just never gets old. but that shit that my nephew watches lik Chowder, and flapjack, and even spongebob was good in like the first 3 episodes bt seriously have people lost all sense of quallity oh by the way i agree with the pic Old cartoons are best although i recall them being new when i was younger all well as my father always said nothing that is pure gold (theoreticly speaking) lasts forever

I agree...most of today's cartoons really ARE dumb! Cartoons from the 1980s, 1970s, 1960s, 1950s, and even the 1940s and 1930s were much, much, MUCH better than most of today's cartoon shows! I mean, what ever happened to shows like "Swat Kats," "Loony Toons," and "Pink Panther?!" They've been conquered and defiled by shit-shows like "Flapjack," "Dexter's Labratory," and "Hero 108!" I hardly ever watch Cartoon Network because of it!
I vote "YES" on pre-1990s cartoons!!

Don't forget Samurai Jack. SWAT Kats and Samurai Jack are the top two cartoons from my childhood, and I'll be watching them as much as I can until I die.

Director1265 In reply to SnowblindOtter [2012-09-17 03:31:47 +0000 UTC]
Ah, yes, Samurai Jack. How can I forget one of the greatest cartoons in the history of humanity?
One catch, though...despite the sheer awesomeness of many of those old shows, there WERE crappy shows in the old days, as there are a few good shows today. I think it depends on the tastes of the individual viewer, but I think for the most part older cartoons typically had better story lines, more characters a person can relate to, more vivid and fluid animation that the animators actually took their time on, and comedy that was overall a lot more wittier and more slapstick rather than plain broad.
All in all, I like good cartoons, new or old, so much that I'm actually going to pursue a career as an animator. Gonna try and make my own cartoons and cartoon studio and all, you know?
π: 0 β©: 1
SnowblindOtter In reply to Director1265 [2012-09-17 16:59:50 +0000 UTC]
I know exactly what you mean. I personally think that more children should watch the older cartoons. Samurai Jack was violent, yeah, but every single episode had a really huge and important moral lesson to teach. Most of the things I know about common decency that wasn't taught by my mother came from those old 90's cartoons.
If a cartoon is good now, then I watch it. I like Rocket Power, and I'm not afraid to say I watch stuff like Jimmy Neutron and Rugrats from time to time myself. Hell, Avatar is the best animated series I've ever seen past 2000 on Nikelodeon, but if anything that'd be my aspiration to match if I get into movie animation. I'm actually looking to get into video games...bring back the age of Naughtydog, Insomniac, and Psygnosis; back when they took their time on video games and focused on quality, not just pumping out the same shit in a shiny new box like CoD.

You know what would be awesome? If they remade some of those epic DoS games in the NaughtyDog and Insomniac styles! Think about it: Xargon, Jazz Jackrabbit, One Shall Fall 2097, Battletoads...doesn't that ring a nostaligic little bell for you?
π: 0 β©: 1
SnowblindOtter In reply to Director1265 [2012-09-18 16:54:22 +0000 UTC]
I've never played those...but I've heard of Jazz Jackrabbit. I have no clue what DoS is, unfortunately. I never really was much of a game-player outside of Crash, Spyro, Croc and Kingsley.
π: 0 β©: 1
Director1265 In reply to SnowblindOtter [2012-09-18 17:45:37 +0000 UTC]
Well, I'm not sure what DoS really stands for, but they're essentially late-80s-early-90s computer games just a step above 8-bit. Thing is, there were a lot of really cool games that came out in that age that most people don't even remember. In Xargon, you were a Stallone-type badass who fired lasers from his belt-buckle in a fantasy world of monsters and demons; One Must Fall 2097 was a lot like that movie Real Steal, with robots fighting to the death; Battletoads is a cheezy but fun sci-fi in which you played as a trio of ultra-badass space frog bounty hunters...and has a world record for being one of the most difficult games ever made. Think something in between Sega Genesis and Nintendo NES, and you'll have an idea about DoS games. Look them up sometime. I'm just saying it would be cool if some of those were remade, preferably in the style you're talking about.

I think Cow and Chicken marked the beginning of the deteriorization of cartoons, as that show even went far enough to symbolize with Boneless Chicken. Spongebob started out ok, but got worse with time. 6Teen and Drama Island have their moments, but I can't stand Chowder and FlapJack. WTF were these people thinking!? I've come up with better stuff in my sleep.
Oh, and love this pic. SWAT Kats FTW!

The cartoons now like Total Drama Island, Chowder, The Misadventures of Flapjack, etc are just crap the TV producers shit out of their asses just to make money. I feel so sorry the kids having to watch that crap. Swat Kats was one of the cartoons I enjoyed watching when I was a kid.
