Darmanitan's evolution from Darumaka takes place after Ash and co. leave Mistralton City and before they arrive in Icirrus City, and it happens in the climax of a battle against a trainer's Heatmor in the finals of a tournament for Fire-type Pokémon.

Ash uses Zekrom for only three battles; against N and Reshiram, the climax of the battle against Ghetsis after Pikachu used what little energy he had left to wake up Zekrom before collapsing in exhaustion and against White Kyurem controlled by Colress.
