//On hand\\

Pikachu
Type: Electric
Gender: Male
Moves:
  • Thunderbolt
  • Iron Tail
  • Electro Ball
  • Extreme Speed
Differences from the canon:
  • Pikachu doesn't temporarily become unable to use Electric-type attacks after his and Ash's first encounter with Zekrom.
  • Pikachu replaces Tepig as the Pokémon Ash uses in his and Cilan's Tag Battle against Ingo and Emmet and learns Extreme Speed during it, replacing Quick Attack as one of his moves.

Oshawott → Dewott
Type: Water
Gender: Male
Moves:
  • Razor Shell
  • Aqua Jet
  • Aerial Ace
  • Hydro Pump
Notes:
  • Despite evolving from Oshawott, Dewott maintains his comedic personality.

Sandile → Krokorok → Krookodile
Type: Ground/Dark
Gender: Male
Moves:
  • Dig
  • Stone Edge
  • Dragon Claw
  • Aerial Ace
Differences from the canon:
  • Ash catches Krokodile much earlier as a Sandile after catching Oshawott and before he could arrive in Accumula Town.
  • Krookodile evolves from Krokorok during a training battle against Cynthia's Garchomp in preparation for the Unova League instead of against Iris's Dragonite in the Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup semifinals.

Snivy → Servine → Serperior
Type: Grass
Gender: Female
Moves:
  • Attract
  • Vine Whip
  • Leaf Blade
  • Dragon Pulse
Notes:
  • Serperior's first evolution from Snivy into Servine takes place before Ash and co. could arrive in Driftveil City while her final evolution into Serperior takes place during the Dragonspiral Tower episode(s), which take place after Ash's victory in the Icirrus Gym.

Darumaka → Darmanitan
Type: Fire
Gender: Male
Moves:
  • Flamethrower
  • Brick Break
  • Psychic
  • Flare Blitz
Notes:
  • Darmanitan's character in his debut appearance as a Darumaka is based off the two Darumakas' from "Saving Darmanitan from the Bell!". His debut episode also replaces it as the first episode to feature a Darumaka, meaning Ash and co. would only have to deal with one Darumaka instead of two and a Darmanitan.
  • Darmanitan's evolution from Darumaka takes place after Ash and co. leave Mistralton City and before they arrive in Icirrus City, and it happens in the climax of a battle against a trainer's Heatmor in the finals of a tournament for Fire-type Pokémon.

Egg → Rufflet → Braviary
Type: Normal/Flying
Gender: Male
Moves:
  • Aerial Ace
  • Air Slash
  • Pluck
  • Brave Bird
Notes:
  • Ash would receive Braviary as an egg from the Pokémon Day Care near Nacrene City after he and his friends helped the people working there in dealing with Team Plasma and hatches into Rufflet in the same place and time as Ash's Scraggy from the canon. Rufflet's character arc would also be similar to Scraggy's where he would be weak in the beginning until he gets stronger as the series progresses and finally evolve in the same place and time as Unfezant's final evolution from Tranquill in the canon.

//With Professor Oak/In rotation\\

Egg → Larvitar → Pupitar → Tyranitar
Type: Rock/Dark
Gender: Male
Moves:
  • Crunch
  • Surf
  • Strength
  • Flamethrower
Notes:
  • Ash would only switch out for Tyranitar for the episode that features Mecha Tyranitar.

//Roaming\\

Dark Stone → Zekrom
Type: Dragon/Electric
Gender: None
Moves:
  • Fusion Bolt
  • Dragon Claw
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Bolt Strike
Notes:
  • Zekrom is 100% the same Pokémon Ash and Pikachu encountered in the first episode, with the difference being that Zekrom instead floats down from the sky in the form of the Dark Stone which Ash actually carries with him throughout his entire Unova journey until Zekrom finally awakens during the N's Castle arc which takes place during the Unova League semifinals.
  • Ash uses Zekrom for only three battles; against N and Reshiram, the climax of the battle against Ghetsis after Pikachu used what little energy he had left to wake up Zekrom before collapsing in exhaustion and against White Kyurem controlled by Colress.
