Just curious, what is your definition of a Mary Sue? Considering I have no backstory for her, that's quite an assumption.

A Mary Sue:
A female character in fanfiction lacking flaws, having good characteristics, and having several of the main characters falling in love with them.
It's also cliche to use a sponge as a love interest. I'm just pointing this out.

Oh no. I didn't take it that you were being rude. I was just curious to know what your definition of Mary Sue was since that term gets thrown around often. Anyway, not that I'm disagreeing with you but I'm also not in agreement. I mean, do you really consider this character to be perfect considering there is no provided backstory or are you just assuming because 1) it looks like SpongeBob and 2) female?
Also, clichΓ©? That's pretty subjective. Some people like another sponge to be his significant other while others don't. It's a matter of what you like or don't like.

It could be seen like that but in all honestly, I have no clue what's behind the picture since it was done seven years ago. Personally, I've seen Mary Sues that are... there to be Mary Sues. And like you've stated, a backstory can either be well-constructed or bad. It seems like it can be something that also makes or breaks a character. Thank goodness I don't write fanfiction. I'm an awful writer as it is. No need to subject the world to my nonsense.
