Description Part of the "Engulfing" series, the third part of three of my new experimental and conceptual work.

My original idea was "the body as a landscape," but I thought about that some and thought it was boring, so then I thought of "the body as part of the landscape," but it was too cold out and there's nowhere remote enough around BG to have naked people in the woods during the day. So I used a slide projector in the studio to project images of nature (a lot of them slides of my own prints, and some being documentation prints of a sculptor's work) onto a dropcloth and around the models' bodies. The effect of this was amazing and after I saw the first few prints, I realized that there was a lot more to these images than a visually interesting effect. There are a lot of different ways to take them, but I think all of them somehow lead to the idea that man is not separate from nature.

The "Engulfing" series shows how nature can reclaim the spirit of man. It is an idealistic dream.

This image is again a bit of a deviation from the others in the series, but it truely shows the nature of the person in the photo. He uses the image of the sycamore tree a lot in his work, it is a sort of totemic symbol for him. So showing him covered by the limbs of this tree is very appropriate and personal.

i really love the way the arm interacts with the main part of the tree. the composition is also very strong...divided in thirds this is one of my favorites :-D

Thats awesome. I love the way the hand, as already stated, seems to be growing with the tree. I also love hoe the branches where the body is seem to curve around man, almost bending out of their way, subservient, but by snpping back into place show that he is in fact part of the greater picture and is part of the tree itself. I'm not sure if that made sense, but Great Job.

the hand seems to be growing up with the tree....pointing towards the same sun.

As I've said before, this and the "Emerging" series... They're just outstanding!
