Description this dress was my baby! I made it over June while I was home for the summer. It was kind of impromptu because my friend and I decided to go visit Chicago and the Bristol ren. faire. I love it to death! You can't really see it here but the underskirt is hand beaded within an inch of it's life and there's only more of that to come with the alterations and revisions that I'm making for the NC ren. faire in Oct.

p.s. made that hat too!!!!

all i really need is detailed measurements, a description of what you want and then I'll sketch. Then usually I'll search for fabrics and we'll figure out all the details of the dress and the cost before I start

I am in awe of this costume! it is beautiful. What patterns did you use?

bluemandolin In reply to pinkxxnightmare [2009-06-11 22:21:56 +0000 UTC]

well, its not really a pattern per se.... i sorta used bits and pieces of stuff and threw it together all from what i had imagined when i drew it out originally. Thanks!

No problem. I figured that was how you made it. The best projects come from that.

yeah, i got tired of having an idea in my head and the renaissance patterns not being what i wanted. But, it wouldn't be the ren. faire if there wasn't chaos trying to figure out how to put the thing together! I'm making a new one right now which i've hacked up some patterns and stuff to make... it should be pretty sweat and up on DA at the end of July!

i love the colors, and the pieces look really nice together. Too bad you can see the beading well, but i have the same problem. darn cameras.

I would love to see you make one with a corset sometime. Come say hi if you at bristol again!

thanks so much! i think i'll probably schedule a stop at Bristol again this year although i'll probably suffer more than last time. I've got a new velvet dress in the works!

Those are do-able, I just need to know what dress design you definitely want and in what fabrics you want it in. I'll have to price the work preliminarily so that you know what you're getting into which means I need a few things from you.

- Your exact measurements which includes: bust, waist, length from waist to floor, arm length from back of neck to shoulder to wrist, arm inseam which is armpit to wrist, and width of arm which is around the bicep,

- The Exact picture or sketch of the dress you want

- And Fabric choices

To give you a price I have to have these things to calculate the amount of fabric I need, price of fabric, how much time, etc...

Just let me know whenever you're ready!

- Amanda

I learned to sew from a combination of mandatory schooling and working for a sewing and fabric company.
When is your prom?

I do need to know generally what size you plan on being at prom time, and what kind of fabric you want to use. This is mostly because I'd like to give you an estimate of the price before it's too late for you to either buy a dress or it turns out too expensive.

I am a bit busy with school and such so I need to know what I need to plan for!

It's ok, I ask questions because I like to be prepared. If I'm going to make you something I want it to be right and I want you to know what to expect out of it!

Oh wow, that's absolutely beautiful ! I just got started sewing a few months ago...hopefully my dress-making skills will get better eventually. Haha.

I think the sleeves are my favorite part. Fantastic !

bluemandolin In reply to Ceslyn [2008-10-14 14:36:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! The sleeves were my own baby because, as you can imagine, there aren't many patterns for that kind of thing. They took for-ever! and then I had to bead the cross sections of the ivory silk all down the sleeves, but they looked really cool in the end. I definately got a lot of comments at the ren. fest. about them. Keep sewing, that's the only way!

Simply amazing work. I found my "inspiration" fabric today for my nobility garb. I have my commercial pattern to start, but will be breaking it out to make my alterations to it. I have never found a commercial pattern that I truely follow. BUt it gives me a the basic shape of what I need. I hope what I have as a result is able stand in a league like yours.

bluemandolin In reply to ksmith2696 [2008-08-05 23:10:45 +0000 UTC]

I use pieces of commercial patterns too. Some of this dress was made from pieces simply because I did not feel like figuring out how to make the pieces on my own in the small amount of time I had to make this before the Bristol Faire. I am making a new bodice because the one in the pic is a little tight and it falls off the shoulders. Thanks for the compliments and good luck, I hope yours turns out great!!!
