Nostalgia is a very strange thing. People can feel nostalgic about anything they associate with the past and which they feel was a part of their life, like a perceived "solidarity" enforced upon them purely by economic circumstances and which came with a smothering level of social control over every aspect of their lives (which they have conveniently forgotten about), an immensely ugly railway station which was demolished for that exact reason, fighter jets roaring overhead all day long (in my case), or the worst crappiest music ever recorded. Nostalgia seems mostly to be a refusal or perhaps an incapacity of our selves to fully experience the fact that everything in life is transient, but as such, and as long as it doesn't translate into politics, it seems mostly harmless and its bitter-sweet sense of longing can indeed be highly enjoyable on a rainy Sunday afternoon

An original take on surely the most photographed object in the world, I like it! . Did you resist taking a selfie in front of it or did you succumb to the magnetic pull to do one?

Thanks a million!  ... Don't want to know how much storage space world wide is filled with all these, uhm ... Paris selfies, really don't need to add to this (Though I confess there are some assisted selfies to be blamed on me, but how can you say no when über-happy teenagers, all smiles and romantic and dewy-eyed, hand you their glittery iphones ...)

Well at least they asked a proper photographer to do it for them! Now there is a business idea... taking portraits of love stricken young couples in front of the Eiffel tower, lots of money to be made!!

Sounds, uhm ... nice But I'm afraid I'd have to line up for this. The level of "business" activities around the tourist attractions in this city is rather disturbing, to put it mildly ...

Oh wow, I guess you are right... when there is money to be made on hordes of gullible tourists, it can bring out the worst in the locals. Shame on them!

Well, the actual problem are not the locals I'm afraid, it's more a weird kind of an immigrant sub-society that is trying everything to rip off naive tourists ...

It's a dilemma ... this structure is too impressive to ignore it and too cliché to even care  ... Happy you like my compromise
