Description I'm starting to work on a new series of pics of painting wild animals that ilike more realistically. I'm not very good at painting things realistically in photoshop, so I'm doing this series to hope to improve upon that.
i don' like this pic very much, still does look realistic enough to me, but this the best i can do foe now.

Aw, that is so beautiful! I've been watching a few tiger documentaries lately, I didn't know their situation is as grim as it is.

yeah, at the rate things are going, the tiger is likely to be extinct in the next 10 years and the only place you might see one is in a zoo, very sad.

I heard.

I also learned about a very endangered leopard called the Amur leopard. I'd never heard of it but apparently there may be fewer than fifty left in the wild. I guess it's the leopard's variant of the Siberian tiger.

yeah, the amur leopard is probably the rarest cat in the world, they kind of like the snow leopard, they live in very cold regions, expect they a more of a coat like their African cousins.

Indeed, I'd never heard of it. It feels so odd seeing these big cats in those environments, doesn't it? Or perhaps they evolved there in the first place and migrated to Africa?

not really sure, but leopard have far east as india, so they were a pretty wide spread animal and could adapt to just about any environment.

Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised if most big cats have roamed large areas of the Earth at one time or another. And then along came man, sigh.

BlueRavenfire In reply to Skyward-Dreamer [2012-12-10 22:16:20 +0000 UTC]

yeah, the tiger really used to roam all over china and india and as far north a Siberia, now thanks to poaching from man there a few small pockets life south east china, southern india and siberia.

Oh right. And weren't there cheetahs and leopards in those same areas as well? And asian lions. And now they're all nearing extinction, it's so sad.

BlueRavenfire In reply to Skyward-Dreamer [2012-12-12 22:53:38 +0000 UTC]

i know leopards were, but i don't know about cheetahs and yeah lions used to roam parts of asia too. i know there was a subspecies of cheetah called the king cheetah that was bigger then a normal cheetah and different spots, but they are nearly extinct too.

Skyward-Dreamer In reply to BlueRavenfire [2012-12-13 23:22:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes, the king cheetahs are so beautiful. I always suspected they might be a similar variation to black leopards (called panthers for whatever reason), something to do with an excess of dark pigment. So rather than spots, the king cheetahs have darker parts and patterns that float together.

BlueRavenfire In reply to Skyward-Dreamer [2012-12-14 22:18:09 +0000 UTC]

yeah, black panthers are basically leopards with a darker coat pigment, same white lions and tigers, that is mostly just a resistive gene that tends to pop up every so often in the their genecties, but king cheetahs are more sub species because of their size difference and spot pattern.

Skyward-Dreamer In reply to BlueRavenfire [2012-12-17 12:05:31 +0000 UTC]

That's what I mean, I guess it's the opposite of the gene that causes pale ('white') lions and tigers.

Oh, I didn't realize they were a different size either, never heard that. Are they bigger or smaller than the standard cheetahs? (Sorry for the delay, another DA friend got me started on a 3D program called XNALara where you can pose game models and it's incredibly fun! I've been totally absorbed for the past few days. )

yeah, pretty much.

yeah, there was a size difference, they were bigger then standard cheetah, they still have the same body shape, just bigger in size.

Nice work, especially with the vibrant colors and the eyes! The tiger's face looks a little too wide and his nose a little too long though, hope that would point out some errors to watch out for. :>

It's looking pretty neat Kim. If you want it to look super-realistic, I'd make the fur even finer and add some more lighting and shade. But I rather like it as it is, it's your own charming style.
