So, you quote a book of fiction at the end of that statement... you do realize that this shatters your credibility, right?

It is not a fiction book

Actually, the Bible is a book of fiction... and one of the worst, most non-sensical pieces of fiction. If you wrote a book like this and send it to publishing houses, I'm pretty sure the editors would write "... Dafuq?" in big red letters on the cover.

Have you ever read the thing? Fortunately for you (and me, since Christians do ask this - indicating either (a) they haven't read the fucking Bible or (b) it's willful ignorance), some people have compiled all of the absurdity of the Bible on one page:Β skepticsannotatedbible.com/absβ¦

Because it is the truth, and as you should know there are overwhelming reasons to believe in it.

How is it true? I mean, I've read it before I became an atheist so I already know it's not true but I want to know why you think it is true.

Well, as you might know, there is several evidence, for example:
1. Archaeological evidence
2. When talking about science it's accurate
3. It's unity in all the books, they are not just random books, they make a whole
4. Non biblical accounts of events and people
5. Millions lives that have been changed
6. Fulfilled prophecies, I think this is the most powerful reason, the book of Daniel prophesying coming kingdom and kings, the prophecies of Jesus! It was impossible all those were prophecies fulfilled in one Person, and yet they were fulfilled
It is the inspired word of God.

JessicaSideways In reply to Blugi [2014-05-15 03:32:14 +0000 UTC]
1. What archaeological evidence?
2. Last I checked, the earth is not flat and came to be billions of years ago, not thousands.
3. Nope, the books contradict themselves.
4. If a Spiderman comic mentions 9/11, does that make Spiderman real?
5. Nope. That's not proof.
6. Nope, there are many prophecies that have not been fulfilled. Plus, Jesus was not the messiah promised to the Jewish people, so even that is a failed prophecy.

Are you kidding? There is plenty of archaeological evidence you can look up in google or in books, I'm not gonna write it
The earth is not flat indeed "It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth , and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in." Isaiah 40:22
The books have unity, they talk of one central topic, Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah, the Savior, the Redeemer. Written in a period of aproximately 1500 years, by more than 40 people.
No, it doesn't, I'm talking about historians.
Obviously not all the prophecies haven't been fulfilled, some of them talk about the last days. Please consider the prophecies about Jesus.
The Bible has 456 prophecies about Him, including his exact place of birth, His ministry, death, betrayal, etc.
Just the probability of someone being born in Bethlem was one in 280,000; just considering the 8 most important prophecies was one in 100,000,000,000,000,000 (10^17).
But there are more than 8 prophecies there was a chairman of mathematics in a college who used 48 prophecies and he got that the chances were one in 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 (10^157). In statistic a probability of something happening smaller than 1^50 it can be considered it will never happen. But there are still 408 prophecies to consider. Would you invest all the money you have in a raffle where you had just one ticket and there were 10^157 other tickets against yours? If you could travel to the future and see that it was the winning one?
So what about your life in someone who fulfilled all this prophecies? Not just 48, but the 456 I definitely would.
I don't know why are you saying that Jesus is not the Messiah.
Please consider what I told you.
He loves you.

Of course you aren't going to provide proof - because there is no historical or archaeological backing for the Bible.
Circles are flat. You know how I know this? Because my plates are also circles. My globes are spheres.
No, they don't have unity - they contradict each other quite often. Jesus does not even meet the criteria to be the messiah - just ask the Jews if you refuse to believe me. Also, Jesus said he was coming back in his disciple's lifetimes. Average life expectancy in that time is approx. 30 years... so, he's 1,950 years late to his own second coming...
Considering that this is a work of fiction, the authors can make Jesus say or do anything they want. If the prophecies said that the messiah had to juggle flaming elephants and Jesus did that, that does not mean that it actually happened. Don't believe everything you read. You're right though, it's statistically improbable to be a magic god-man. Which leads to the question of why you believe this work of fiction which continually fails to deliver on it's claims?
Because Jesus is imaginary and even if you believe the horse shit story, it even says that Jesus doesn't love you - he threatens that if you don't love him and commit your afterlife to stroking his ego, he will torture you forever after you die. That's not love, that's abuse. So even if your book is true, it's claim to be love is false.

It would be nice if you read what I wrote before pretending you don't hate Christianity, I told you just to google something that has more than a million results in google, you told me that there's no proof, I can answer everything you told me but you will read it with preconceptions. This is leading us to nothing.
I think that you even know the answers, you went to a bible college.
It is not about debating, it's your eternal life.

Actually, I did read what you wrote. I stand by that statement, there is still no evidence for the claim you are making.
Why not just try answering my questions instead of hemming and hawing and making excuses? Just because I don't buy your lies does not mean it's leading us to nothing... quite the opposite in fact.
Yes, I know the answers - Christianity is a hoax.

I'm not making excuses, you are claiming something you think it's true.
I invite you to do a research on why Christianity is false, do real research, not just look up in 2 or 3 website make something like a thesis, read the bible and find the contradictions, but not only the contradictions you say, but also try to find out the answer of why we say that the Bible has no contradictions, and make your decision, you will be surprised.
"Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important." - C. S. Lewis

Actually, yes you are making excuses. I know why you claim that the Bible has no contradictions - because you haven't read it. Also, your CS Lewis quote is wrong because Christianity has a negative impact on the real world we all have to live in. After all, it is Christians opposing equal rights for gay people, justifying slavery, harassing women at health centres and stopping the teaching of science.Β
