Locality: Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Copper Mine), Hubei Province, China

A sweet vug lined with deep but visibly red cuprite octahedrons in a limonite matrix. Associated with a bit of black delafossite balls as well. The oxidization of the cuprite to air gives the crystals a sub-metallic surface, a mirror-like luster. Further prolonged exposure to air will result in an even more intense metallic luster as well as an increased opacity and darkness of the red cuprite crystals.

I wanted to capture a photo of these crystals that have pleasantly retained their rich color. Cuprite is also known for being difficult to photograph with proper color, but surprisingly the color you see here is pretty accurate in this case.
