Description As the graduation party was winding down, John’s grandpa pulled him into a back study. “Now you are a college graduate, time for me to completely change your world.”

The young man’s eyes grew to saucers when he looked at the Polaroid placed into his hands, “Grandpa what is this?”

“That is the only remaining evidence for the sole alien space craft captured by the Air Force. In that picture I am holding her, she is just awaking from the shock of the crash. She claimed she was from the 2030s and warned of pandemics and climate change.”

“What happened to her?”

“Being in the 1970s and dumb men, the others didn’t believe her of course. They made her dance and sing as they drank. When the chief surgeon spoke of conducting an autopsy…although she was clearly alive…I knew I had to act.”

“What did you do?”

“She knew it was a one way trip, so I rigged her spacecraft to detonate and slipped her into my overalls pocket. The brass just concluded that while the men were drunk she tried to escape and her craft exploded. They were pissed and made us cover the whole thing up.”

“Did she make it home?”

“Of sorts, she didn’t make it to the 2030s, but…” John’s grandfather uncovered a small fish tank. Inside was a beautifully apportioned dollhouse that was fully furnished. A small lady smiled and waved from inside, “Tara did find a home. Now I am getting too old to take care of her…or hell myself really. So I want you to take care of her.”

John watched as Tara was scooped out of her enclosure and placed into his palm. She smiled and waved, her salt and pepper hair the only evidence showing that time indeed had passed since the Polaroid had taken.

In a soft voice she said, “John your grandfather told me so much about you and your goals for climate change. Unfortunately my mission was a failure, but maybe you can make a difference in how it goes this time around. Take me with you and let’s find ‘me.’ We can help her devise a better mission plan.”

In a stupor and awe of the person he was holding, he nodded. She climbed up John’s shirt and settled into his pocket.
