oh man, you read my mind. I am sure it wasn't all fun and games, but it definitely beat being a low class "citizen" in any of their home countrys. Given the choice to to live on the edge and most likely die doing it or be an indentured servant? I know what I would pick for sure.

No, living on the edge is definitely not all fun and romance. But although life is sometimes hard you gain a freedom most people can only dream of.
I had to live like that for almost a decade, so I know the feeling very well. Good and bad memories, it made me to what I am today. (An adult brat)
Those years I had to survive as a pirates modern day freelancing equivalent: A scrap- and car parts dealer. Only Sun and rum, it´s Europe here...
My accident of March 2010 eventually ended this period, but it was fun and edgy alike.
It must´ve been a well calculated risk for low class citizens to take that gamble and make the best out of their shitty position and lives.
Living your dream and have a good life, or die trying... I would´ve taken that opportunity as a 1600-1700 citizen too, without regrets!

I really like how unique this is. Like, most people would give her a parrot as a bird friend and just put a skull on her hat, but I like it this way a lot better. It has a really light feel to it, kind of reminds me of Wind Waker. Anyways, really cool
