The Imperial Vault of Heaven is part of the Temple of Heaven (Tian Tan) complex of Taoist ceremonial buildings. The Imperial Vault is similar in concept to the Temple of Heaven, but smaller and simpler. It has one tier of roofing rather than three. The strikingly simple shape and deep blue roof tiles make it a memorable sight.
The picture was taken at dusk, so is a bit under-exposed. The image has been enhanced in software to improve contrast and shadow detail, but there are limits to how much can be done without it looking too artificial.
