Description This is the second concept shot, and in my opinion, far more interesting than the first. Details on the overall layout, theme, header and footer are described in the first concept .

User Toolbar
Now that the user is logged in, you can see more options along the bar at the very top. The message count appears as normal. The logout button is at the top-left corner, easy to see.
The tool buttons along the right hand side are all interactive in much the same way as they are in v5, but the addition of a drop-down arrow shows that they can be clicked. Hovering over the buttons will display a tooltip.
The buttons are, from left to right, the main dA menu, where one can access settings, submit deviations and journals, and go to the Help & FAQ and random deviants/deviations. (The menus in the v6 beta are really ugly because the highlighted item is blue, not green, and the bottom corners are rounded, which doesn't look right at all.) The second is a menu for administrators and gallery directors that show various tasks depending on the administrator's role and privileges. The third is the friends box, and the fourth is the collections box, which will cover up the header when expanded.
Having all the tool buttons in one place is not only intuitive to the user as it allows natural exploration of the features, but it also means it's easy to add a new tool in the future.

Advanced Search
Now for the main purpose of the page - advanced search will allow users to construct complex searches for anything they wish, with far greater ease than before. From the left panel, we select what we want to search for, and the interface will change accordingly.
Allowing users to save searches means that not only do their searches travel with them wherever they log on (as opposed to bookmarks), but these searches can be treated as streams for the customizable front page. Perhaps you can even search within a saved search? Hardcore...
Most of the options on this page are already available on the main search, but with an interface, new users will be able to see what they can do without first revising the FAQ. Other options closer to the bottom are not currently available, but they're pretty self-explanatory - they've all been suggested at some point in the past via the Suggestions Forum.
Notice that we also have 'Deviants' on the list. We should be able to search for deviants by matching their real name, complete/partial username match, deviant type, and region in the world. (Not included on the concept: when there is a groups feature on dA, it would be useful to search those too, rather than rely on Club Indexes that are manually updated.)

It's not compatible with anything, because it's just a concept.

Problem is that people is very retarded when using tags or some people don't use them at all... Sadly dA is not Google so this won't work.

.png as far as I can tell is the best way to save a file...no this it is a lossless compression...jpg is so outdated and yet its 2010 and duh you idiots are still using it. get with the program...there is also .hdr, but only if you want to spend around 20-35 thousand dollars on a true hdr monitor...adobe has them now thats the future...these lcd to led is a joke because the next thing will be hdr images...if you want to be a pro get with the program...do any of you digital artists know about ICC profiles for printing....or are you just going to jump on the band wagon and hope that everything will be digital....you need to know the difference between CMYK and RGB, and yes many new printers are going digital with inks, but remember your history because all this digital stuff is the dumbed down version of the real thing...sorry to be so frank and hurtfull, but as they say the truth hurts doesn't it.....godspeed little seeds.......end of line.

Have you seen Google's custom image search settings?
-> search by selected color
-> search by specified size
-> search by selected type
could they be applied into the advanced search window.

fantastic! Dev desperately needs an advanced search. I know how to do advanced searches but it's finicky and i think it had a character limit or didn't completely do my search.

It would also be good if we could search for art off or Deviants based on personal details, like age, sex, subscription etc. Might seem a bit perverse or something though.

BoffinBrain In reply to jakeometer [2008-12-30 17:23:00 +0000 UTC]

It would also be extremely useful to search through a particular user's favourites. You can use favby:username, but you can't add anything else to the query.

True, i too have recently been searching hard for something i seen ages ago and i'm sure it was off an artist who had a peice fav'd by someone i watch. Hmmm

platinummyr [2008-10-25 21:01:21 +0000 UTC]

I want a way to search by submission date, so "all deviations that match this search submitted more than x time ago"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BoffinBrain In reply to platinummyr [2008-10-26 16:09:35 +0000 UTC]

That would be nice as well. You can use the Way-back feature on dA but as far as I'm aware it can only browse categories, not search results.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

platinummyr In reply to BoffinBrain [2008-10-26 20:29:58 +0000 UTC]

Yes, and it's clunky to use. I want a way to view a single day, with a script, so I can view each 24 hour period one at a time, to see what was most popular on that day

Or also, for searching for a deviation I found a long time ago, but didn't favorite it, and now I want to see it again. That's hard to do.

BoffinBrain In reply to platinummyr [2008-10-28 20:00:03 +0000 UTC]

It would be nice if dA kept track of what you've viewed for your own convenience, like YouTube does.

The only real solution to that for now is to make your browser history really long.

It wills still function in the same way - this page would be to help users who are unfamiliar with the syntax of the search functions, plus it introduces new features that currently aren't implemented.

I mean... yes!

thegnat [2008-05-09 20:01:48 +0000 UTC]

This works a whole lot better than the current search that deviantART has for users.

I also like the tool bar at the top. The icons don't attract me very much due to the "animation" feel. However, I do like how they're exposed instead of being hidden in a drop down menu.

The amount of search options here is amazing! It would definitely bring up what you're looking for, rather than everything you're not looking for.

If only deviants would properly tag their deviations now!

Very nice work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BoffinBrain In reply to thegnat [2008-05-09 21:45:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, we need better tagging for sure. deviantART should provide better support in that area, I think.

Just wondering - what exactly do you mean by the 'animation' feel of the icons?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thegnat In reply to BoffinBrain [2008-05-10 01:36:22 +0000 UTC]

Maybe animation wasn't a good word to describe the emoticons. They seem too detailed. I mean, deviantART has pretty detailed emoticons, but the colours stay simple and detailed enough to well, show details. The just seem too over developed.

I don't know if that's a bad thing or not, but I really enjoy the simplicity of the deviantART emoticons.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BoffinBrain In reply to thegnat [2008-05-10 02:51:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I figured. The icons can be found on their own in my gallery - I made them because I was fed up with the old-style pixel ones. It's just a matter of taste.
