Description United States Transportation Corp #5002, an 0-6-0T steam switcher built by the H.K. Porter Company in 1942. Originally built to be shipped overseas the little locomotive never got around to making the trip and ended up staying in the U.S.

In the 1960's she was sold to an amusement park in Cumberland Falls, KY called "Tombstone Junction" who attempted to power a train ride with her and a sister unit. This proved technically difficult and they were sidelined and placed on display at the park until it closed in 1992. It was then sold to a private collector who moved it to the Kentucky Railway Museum in New Haven, KY where it sat.

It has recently been sold to a group in Pennsylvania and the engine has been moved here by KRM to wait for pick up and shipment by truck.

There's something about the look of decayed old steam locomotives that just fascinates me.

Hm, you know, this switcher looks almost like Granite Rock No. 10.

It's the same model. In fact alot of the parts for the restoration of #10 are off of this engine and a sister unit that were purchased off an abandoned amusement park that had them here in Kentucky.

Cool. I rather like this engine. Mostly because it's hard to find American engines with side tanks. I used it for my tank engine character.

The theme park (Tombstone Junction) bought this engine in 1960's to power a train ride around their park. The engine proved too small for their uses and they went with another engine. It stayed there until the park shut down and closed in 1992.

Did ya mentioned that this engine was sold to Pennsylvania? What for?

Sold to a private owner in Pennsylvania. She's going to be moved to the Colebrook Dale Railroad for a planned restoration to operation.

Correct. I have seen 5002 sitting around several times, each time put somewhere else. Also, recently Viscose 6 stopped by for a few weekends around Memorial Day. As small as they get, yet seemed bigger than I imagined.

Shame it had to leave Kentucky, I'd always hoped maybe the museum would buy and restore it, but to be completely fair if they'd bought it they would've left it where it was.
