First, i want to explain why the rating was rather erratic. One believes that a good piece of art is supposed to get fabulous ratings all around, but I would sometimes beg to differ. There are some factors that stand alone in a picture, and based on the different perspectives, one definitely will see things differently.
We'll start off with the Vision on how you've managed to see into the use of good light and 'keeping' it within your friend's hands. Good start.
No doubt it's pretty original. I haven't seen many of this, and probably not in this manner.
Technically, it's pretty sound, carefully giving the hands the right amount of glow without letting the overexposure of the light wash onto the hands itself. In fact, I felt at this point in time, that the text and the glow around the text itself was a good mix. It added to the mysterious feeling of the whole picture.
The problem with this picture that keeps others from loving it just as much - and I must say that it's clearly my opinion and perspective, is that the hands have pretty much covered a bit too much light. Sure it does show us a little bit of light, but we need a little more to capture the essence of holding it in. A commenter also has a good point, the thumbs are in an awkward position and it might work better if it's placed closer to your other fingers. Try angling your lens a little higher and if need be, let less light in to counter the overexposure from spilling out when you do. It should help.
Always constantly improving and striving to improve! That would be every learning photographer's motto. You're definitely a good conceptualist. Keep trying and without a doubt you'll hit the gold bar one day.

Nice idea and well executed! Only I'd say the tumbs look a little weird, maybe it would be better to hold them closer to the other fingers or a little more curved.
