You see that rock down close to the falls? sat on that rock posing for pictures that hoped to duplicate in a fantasy 3D animation. It is a very beautiful place. Though to stay over night where did is a whole 'nother experience. The room was so small that if you were in the shower and dropped the soap, you would have to open the hall door, go out to bend over to pick it up. Complete bazaar situation. You are a very gifted photographer. It is a pleasure to browse through your gallery.

Thank you very much! I would say it starts with a good sturdy tripod and solid ground to place it on so the camera stays perfectly still for crisper focus. I also usually bracket my exposures for HDR output, something that can be set as a simple function in many cameras even before you learn about HDR. I try not to overdo the effects though, HDR has received a lot of negative criticism for that... but rather I use it to reveal more subtle tone variations like in the water for example in this photo. In a non-HDR photo, the water would have revealed flatter and more uniform shades of white, whereas HDR brought in various shades of gray for a more "gradient" effect.

I don't know any right around DC, but if you take a road trip up the PA, the Delaware Water Gap area is amazing. Actually, that photo you posted reminded me of Bushkill Falls in that area. They have a fairly elaborate boardwalk system that traverses the cliffs and mountainside. The rest of the gap is a bit more rugged, but great for hiking and kayaking.
I've been up and down the East Coast a bunch, and the most beautiful place I've seen is western NC along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Smokeys. If you're feeling adventurous and haven't been you owe it to yourself. Many fantastic waterfalls in that area too. Some in caves.
Happy adventuring!

There's something about this that reminds me of the Eldergreen Sanctuary in Skyrim.
