I'm curious, is Hamas-administered Gaza under control of the Palestinian government of Abbas, or are they technically separate entities within the same state?

In 2007 the Hamas-Fatah conflict have esculated to what is known as a "brother's war" or "Battle of Gaza" in which Hamas took control over the Gaza Strip while Fatah regain it's control over the West Bank. Since then Hamas administrated everything in regard to Gaza and the strip acted almost as an independent state (exept for the fact 100% of their water and electricity was provided by Israel but they had unrecognized sovereignty over the Gaza Strip). They even had two governements and established their own ministries, in a nutshell, they have disconnected themselves from the Palestinian Authority. They have alledgedly thought about declaring independence in 2012.

In 2014 Hamas and Fatah made an agreement to stop the break in their relations and agree to create a unity governement within 6 months but that didn't happen and following the Israel-Gaza war in summer 2014, the Palesitnian Authority in the West Bank resumed their efforts to kill support for Hamas in the West Bank. The Palestinian Authority condamnd both Hamas and Israel during the fight and altohugh they were of course in the Palestinian side they couldn't publically support Hamas. The Authority arrest Hamas activists with cooperation with Israel in a daily routine.

So De-Jure, the Gaza Strip is under Palestinian Authority since the agreemenet between Hamas and Fatah but De-Facto it is still under Hamas by all means and the Palestinian Authority pretty much has very little influence over the Gaza Strip in which most of the work is with the Palestinian Health ministry.
