Black Bourbon, a wonderful mare sired by the famous CBS Mezuzah out of ASRC Golden Whiskey. Both incredibly talented in their own regard, Mez being a master of dance and Whiskey has the jumping power. As a result, Brenna came out to be a perfect mixture of the two, she was both refined in her movement but also brave when tackling jumps. Her personality also makes her quite competent in the field of cross-country. The collection of traits like these makes Brenna a perfect candidate for Eventing, why stick with one discipline when you can do three at the same time?
The mare has been introduced correctly, broke in, bomb-proofed and much much more. Borys has been working with Black Bourbon for a while now, he did have to get used to her quirks but eventually the two have grown to respect each other. As a team they rode aggressively, thought they needed some refining. The eager mare would at times try to tackle moves she hasn’t fully learnt or attempt to tackle jumps that were way out of her league. With enough practice the two were ready to compete on a decent level.
Show tack check. Treats check. Fancy new riding shoes check. Everything in order and once fully tacked up after being pampered the mare looked like a champion. The tan coloured tack stood against her dark coat. The black saddle pad, the golden accents and the new shiny boots. Borys himself wasn’t as flashy, he stuck with a dark navy jacket and helmet and traditional white breeches. Of course including his new riding shoes, the two together looked like quite a team.
After their names were announced, the duo rode into the arena. Borys memorised the jumps while the mare let him manoeuvre around the place with ease. Counting strides, getting the perfect speed and jump, rinse and repeat. The mare was brave when tackling even the larger jumps which for her level were quite the challenge. Tucking in her legs to avoid touching the polls. Then when landing a loud snort with her tail flicking around.
Each jump was a pleasure and the way the mare performed made it look so easy. No wonder folk say equestrian competitions are simple, they just look at a duo like Borys and Bourbon and think it’s a walk in the park. No thought, no nothing just training, practice and some talent.
