Following the chaos of the revolution of 1933 and the breakup of the United States, the Republic of Ohio lasted for a year before being overthrown by a rogue faction of the former US military. After the coup, elections were postponed, hundreds were expelled from the state, and all communication to the rest of the former USA was cut off. It was a slow process at first, a mile of fence built here and a checkpoint there, but the paranoia of the State junta compounded until even friendly states were treated with suspicion. By 1994, Order-State Ohio had become one of the most secluded and regimented countries in North America; most people cannot get in or out. The few who do leave tell frightening stories of an isolationist and repressive police state.
