Description The Honey Badger (Mellivora capensis), also known as the RatelΒ is a mammal widely distributed in Africa, Southwest Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. They are related to skunks, otters, ferrets, and other badgers. This fierce creature, no bigger than a medium sized dog, will attack any animal and has known to steal a lion's kill. Equipped with long claws, sharp teeth and loose-fitting skin that allows it to twist away from attackers, the honey badger is both powerful and swift. One was filmed attacking a puff adder snake. Hours after biting into the snake's head and falling unconscious from the potent venom, the honey badger awoke and finished eating the snake.

Diet: Honey and honeybee larvae. They also eat termites, amphibians, rodents, birds, snakes and other reptiles, as well as roots, bulbs, berries, and fruits.

Size: 9 to 11 inches high at shoulder, 3 feet long and weigh 13 to 30 pounds.
