I do not think I will ever get tired of looking at this.
And yes, his neck fat is truly something to behold.

Lansbury!Lovett = INSTANT WIN.
Extra points for the pseudoGerman/deranged-fairy-godmother dress you've got her in.

the guy is George Hearn and it kills me that everyone looooooves the timburton/johnnydepp version (i like them too, but sofuckingwhat?) when Hearn's voice is enough to make you cry.

I just have to say it because I have recently witnessed it: a giant cardboard thingy of Depp-Sweeney's head, in my mom's town's theather, covered in pink, starkly lipstick kisses. Right on his cheek.
That is all.

XD Yeah that is pretty aweful, we had a figure of Snape in our local borders and it had a big lipstick kiss on the box. No one bought it for weeks D:

I saw that version of Sweeney too! I loved Lovette in that! She reminded me of Sailor moon on crack.
My only problem with that version was, everytime I saw Johanna, especially in her song "Green finch and linnet bird" I wanted to do very unhappy things to her until she could sing no longer.
I saw the movie, it was awesome. And even though they changed the designs SEVERELY, it was, atleast to me, an improvement, they cut out the song about different colors of blond hair, and Johanna has a pretty voice. If you haven't seen it yet by the time I'm commenting on this, OMG SEE IT NOW LOLZ!!!1! ...but if you have, can we giggle like little school girls?

Oh dear lord, there's ST slash?! D: I'm half tempted to go looking for it, sadly.
The two versions are very different. I gotta say, I do like Hearn's Sweeney in terms of the actual character portrayed, but Depp's Sweeney certainly wasn't bad on the eyes.

Stephen Sondheim owns those characters.
I think.
At least he owns those versions.
And the musical > the movie.
Not that the movie wasn't great.

I think the "hottification" of Sweeney and Lovett came with the whole Burton stylization of the film. I personally don't mind, but I know there will be a new crop of Sweeney fans that don't realize that Sweeney is supposed to look like he could be a blacksmith, or that Lovett is supposed to be slatternly.
I absolutely adore how you did Lansbury!Lovett. It's got evil, it's got some comic flair, and I love the meat pie.

Just saw the Burton movie today, and it really was gorgeous. Depp and Carter were good, but still didn't sit right with me. But I know that's all to do with expectations, people who've never heard of Sweeney Todd before will probably eat it up.
...*is shot*
I need to draw Lansbury!Lovett doing the thing where she hides her face behind a meat pie when she's laughing.
"That's a picalo player."
"How can you tell?" *hides behind pie*
"It's piping hot!"

I would love to see a fanart of Lansbury Lovett hiding behind the pie.
That part had me in stitches. LOL. I plan on buying this version on DVD, too.

and I don't mind "prettifying" something for Hollywood's version as long as who they get can do justice to the character and it looks to me like Depp definetly can. (He hates being considered a "pretty boy" and if there's anything he can do, it's psychotic) Unlike other plays that got mindlessly prettfied that shall remain nameless (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!)

Yeah, I agree with you entirely on the pretty goth thing. Makes me think of what they did with Bellatrix in the HP movies... not that the character wasn't totally hot and cool and stuff, but she sure didn't look like something who'd been through a hellish, mind-bending ordeal and back again.

I like Makani's Bellatrix quite a lot. The hot is there, but it takes a firm backseat to the batshitcrazy.

Yeah, Makani's Bellatrix is cool in an evil stepmother way. So far, though, your Bellatrix has been the best I've seen - EVERYTHING takes a backseat to the batshit crazy.

True, although Depp could be debatable.

Very very feminine cardboard sailor hero. Whose line "yes" after Mrs. Lovett commented that "this is all so romantic" made me giggle. Just ... the way he delivered it.
Joanna annoyed me a little, but she grew on me as the movie went on. I liked Antony better than her, though.

you know, this might be the one time I will look slash in the face and say, "NO, BITCH!" Because ugh... those characters are the most incompatible people in the world! Rule 34 be damned.
But yes, the new movie is made of Win and Moar Win, whereas the Broadway production with Angela Lansbury is made of Yay, mostly because of Angela herself being an awesome actress.

I could argue, for the sake of theory, that all rival pairings are fair game. Assume one's a boy and the other a girl, and the sexual tension becomes obvious, or at least expected. Doesn't mean it makes sense in all cases, just that when a boy and a girl are involved it's a given.
But it's really not fitting when one really does want to kill another for a very specific offense. That goes beyond even people who ship Nny and Devi, imagining them happy together.
BTW, I looked, there's already two LJ groups dedicated to Sweeney/Judge.
