I really like this piece overall. I especially appreciate the way the image reads, starting with the trail of footprints (reinforced by the curve of the dune) leading up to the model, whose posture/figure further reinforces / reiterates the curves found within the landscape. There’s also an interesting tension produced by the contrasting of the vivid blue of the sky with the earth tones of the sand and the model’s body. I won’t belabor the allusion to the yin/yang dichotomy, with the feminine connection to earth and opposition to the masculine yang/sky reinforced by both the contrasting / harmonizing color scheme as well as the recurrent curving patterns, since I suspect this was a planned aspect of the composition. Areas where I think the piece could be a tiny bit stronger are few. It’s unfortunate that the model’s footprints are not more distinct, but I suspect that’s virtually impossible to control given the unpredictability of a natural setting. I may have also cropped the image just a bit more on the left, to eliminate the small area of scrub brush that don’t really contribute to the composition. Lastly, it may have been interesting to see the model try some poses in which she arches her body (or even a semi-reclining pose) to either further reinforce or further contrast (depending on the angle) the patterns of the dune. However, these are all very minor points, and I feel this is a very interesting and successful composition as is. Bravo!
