What software are you using to create your landscapes? They look stunning.

Thank you

I use VUE and WorldMachine

You're using VUE, too, right?

Oh, nice. I'd like to try WorldMachine sometime. Yes, I use Vue, too. I love it!

Yes, VUE is awesome - am still a beginner, though. I've seen some complex stuff on here..., also your images are great - especially the one with all those lights in the ocean. I fav'd that one, lol

Thank you very much for the kind words and favorite, bud! Glad you liked it. Yeah, Vue is so much fun and intuitive. I get a bit frustrated with Vue's terrain editor, but there's lots of potential to create some awesome things. For a beginner, you're doing quite well. Keep at it!

I feel you. That programme really is overwhelming with all those functions and everything and I do get frustrated, too, at times. But yes, I love VUE, lol. When did you start working with VUE? Oh and thanks a lot for the watch - I appreciate it.

You're welcome, bud. And I appreciate your watch too!

I started using Vue back in early 2006 - Vue 5 trial, then I purchased Vue 6 shortly thereafter. I was instantly addicted, though no one will ever see the awful images I first cranked out! LOL Vue has come a long way, and I've still got much to learn, but I'm very comfortable with it as my primary render engine. Yeah, the function editor is just an anomaly to me. I've tried playing around with it but my brain always ends up yelling, RUN!

I love that you can create almost anything - there are no boundaries, but I get frustrated pretty quick..., especially when I think I created something nice and then check deviantart and see what other people created - makes my images look like crap, lol...

I'm the same way! haha You don't know how many images I've scrapped because I come here and see something crazy-awesome, deflating my image (and ego!). I think that's a common trap to put an unrealistic expectation on our work, but sometimes we just have to get over it and throw it out there anyway. (And stay away from galleries here until after you post it! )

lol, true..., did you go to school for digital art?

jrmalone In reply to Bonvanello [2014-01-24 20:52:59 +0000 UTC]

No, not at all -- I wish I had gone to school for art instead of techie stuff. I started doing this back in 2006, so all self-taught. Lots and lots of trial and error -- emphasis on ERROR! lol   Did you go to school for art? Your planet tutorial is wonderful, by the way. I'm going to give it a go one soon.

No, I didn't, but I am thinking about going to school for art actually. I think this is what I really want to do, but I am scared to fail, lol.
You can still join art school, though. It's never too late.
I am glad you like the planet tutorial. I hope you'll show me the result then

Oh, I will definitely tag you when I make it.

Oh, don't be afraid to fail -- if it's your passion and dream, DO IT! Fear will keep your feet planted on the ground and you might regret it later. If it doesn't work out, it's not failure -- you tried, at least. For sure, it's tough to get into a lucrative career with art right away, but then again, artists get lucky all the time, and you may find yourself with a dream job doing art of some kind and selling things on the side. I remember reading a quote from someone a long time ago that said something like, "do what you love -- the money will follow." My day job is so very technical and boring, with no room for art or creativity. I wish I had chosen art or at least digital design instead of computer science (BORING and tedious -- I thought that was my dream job. I was wrong, so wrong LOL). But you're right -- I can go back to school, and perhaps I will. Indeed, never too late. Keep putting your stuff out there, my friend!
