Description It's been a while since I've been able to play with Fimo! I've had Sly here done for a while, but it's been this long before I've been able to post him.

Sly Cooper, for those who don't know, is a master thief, latest in a long line of master thieves. He steals only from criminal masterminds, oftentimes interfering with their plans for evil. With his partners, Bentley the turtle and Murray the hippo, he goes far and wide.

This piece was an experiment in pre-curing. Following ~Dragonfeelers ' advice after the fall of Laura , I started by sticking a bent hairpin in a thick base of Fimo, and curing that. Around that, I built his legs and feet, and added everything else except his arms; I stuck a straightened hairpin in, and cured him again. Finally, I built his arms around the hairpin, his staff around a shaped bit of paperclip, and cured him again. (This time I just cured his upper body; the blue torso (Fimo Classic) didn't stick to the gray legs (Fimo Soft) when I cured them, but fortunately his fall didn't ruin him like it did poor Laura.)

I'm happy with how he turned out. I think I did reasonably well at capturing a dynamic pose, poised and ready for action. I'm happy with the shape of his head, and rather pleased with his hat. I'm getting better at hands, but still need work; they're hampered by my fingers being too big for the fineness of detail work I try to do (like that lucky horseshoe on his backpack). If I were to change anything, I'd put tinfoil in his tail, rather than making it solid Fimo, and I'd use alternating sections of gray and black. (What I did here was make a solid gray tail and put bands of black around it.)

Raw Fimo doesn't stick very well to cured Fimo. That's why his feet are such a mess. I'm pleased I was able to get his arms to stick so well, although you can still see the join marks.

Materials: Fimo Soft, Fimo Classic, 1 paperclip, 2 hairpins
Time: About 3 hours, spread over two sessions
