Description Touché, Raffaello... touché

Don't get me wrong, i love most of Rothko's paintings.
But you gotta admit modern art is classicism's bitch.

Mark Rothko: [link]
Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio): [link]
And here's a link for those who have never heard about the quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns (beeing an episode of french history, i'm afraid the english wiki article about it is a little vague) [link]

Note : The lettering i used here is a new one i just finished creating using my own handwritting. Any thoughts ?

I feel as though Rothko is one of the few "Abstract Expressionists" who has some kind of technique present in their work. Even if that technique is very...vaguely displayed. I feel as though there are SOME principles of design that are present in his work like...well...color and the relationship between two colors. Personally, I'm not a fan of abstract expressionism. I feel as though artists like De Kooning and Pollock have no real technique. I feel as though there are no principles of design present within their work. No values, no contrast, no texture, etc. But this is just my opinion.

I've always been iffy on modern art myself. I would prefer art that actually had some sense of form rather than just squares or paint splotches on canvases.

personally, I HATE Modern Art. I could go on a twenty page rant about it, but I won't. just saying that in most caes with modern art, the story behind the piece is good, and interesting, and the piece is shit. in more cases it is both. shit that is.

THANK YOU.
I never get the point of abstract work like this, especially when it comes to fine art students who use it as a cover up because they suck at everything else. Or in the popular sense, Lazy-ness.

Rothko's painting ? Yea, i guess that one is pretty neat.
Plus most of his work is only interesting if you're standing in front of it, since they're usually human sized.

And thanks ^w^ glad you do

I know.. but it just feels better to be immature and look down on people who look at a square with splashes of paint and say its his soul in paint as nothing. or something like that. I'm just sounding stupid as I continue typing aren't I

DawnTheCreator [2012-01-11 19:46:36 +0000 UTC]

I remember taking a field trip to an art gallery, and when we got to the Moderen Art section, the first painting (if you could call it that) was a single black dot on a big white canvis, and next to it was a painting that looked like someone through paint on it. And then followed a ton of fruit bowls and flower vase paintings.

A bit of my soul died that day, and I was only 9.

Ok. As restorer and by almost immediate consequence history of art scholar, not to mention artist and art lover, I do my very best to get into every style and understand the reason behind it, what brought the artist to choose that specific form of expression and the message they want to pass no matter the visual result. Which actually opens your eyes on a lot of things, really.

But still.

IT'S A FUCKING SQUARE ON A CANVAS

So yes we agree, classic art still rocks everyone's tits. ^5

And oooooh purdy font O3O

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Boredman In reply to FlamiatheDemon [2012-01-11 17:53:01 +0000 UTC]

Yup. I mean, Rothko's an exception cause his paintings actually do create an illusion of distance and horizon sometimes, but as for the rest of them just painting paintings about painting beeing painted, dude screw them fuckers XD
Fucking Andy Warhol, man. Freakkin hate that guy.

Really ? yu lik et ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlamiatheDemon In reply to Boredman [2012-01-11 19:37:01 +0000 UTC]

Never noticed that to be honest, but still yeah |D

Well, not hating so much Warhol cause he kind of contributed making comics more relevant in today's society somehow, and he wasn't too bad of a thinker. If there's someone I hate the guts of, it's this guy [link]

And yes, yes I do I remember back in highschool when I was studying graphic design and had to learn how fonts were created, geometric construction and all, and I can say this ain't half bad of a try ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Boredman In reply to FlamiatheDemon [2012-01-11 20:11:47 +0000 UTC]

Yea right, Jerry Robinson and Stan Lee had nothing to do with that XD It was aaaaall Warhol.
I'm sorry, but i still got his freakin "cans of soup" shit stuck in my throat.
I like that Peanut Butter guy better, i least his stuff is eatable jk

Thanks, but regardless of your knowledge of the process, is the one i did easy on the eye ?
I'm not aiming for special or noticible, i just want it to blend in with my comics.
