As a personal rule, Micares prefers to not take the main stage himself. He plays live background music for other performances.
He is completely capable of solo performances, and in fact enjoys them almost a bit too much, but he tires of them very quickly.
P e r s o n a l i t y
A consummate, stubborn liar, Micares is not pleasant company. He is completely egocentric and vain, and his adamant insistence on all of his opinions and thoughts are exhausting. (Un)fortunately, his charisma veils his numerous faults and he can humble himself just enough to allow other people to care about him.

Both jealous and detached, he lacks the empathy to be genuinely concerned about others, but his pride is built in a way that causes him to find deliberate seclusion unbearable. At one point of time, he might consider you a precious friend, but in the next hour, he wouldn’t be bothered to help you out a boiling cauldron of wax and as far as he was concerned, he never knew you. On the other hand, if you threw a party and didn’t invite him, he’d be secretly plotting a way to make your life more miserable.

Capricious in all things, he lives in and for the moment. He likes to consider himself an all-important wild card, a trickster playing in the shadows. Interestingly, his arrogance clashes with the magical and supernatural. He considers supernatural beings “cheating”, therefore, he thinks very lowly of them.

Despite Micares’ grandiose manner, he is a coward through and through. On the front lines, he’ll muster up all his bravado to appear heroic, just to feed his ego. But at the end of the day, you’ll find him already half across the country. His cowardice also manifests in his reluctance to give up anything. It’s all or nothing.

However, one of the only facets of his personality and practice that seems authentic is his love for music. Micares tries to pride himself as being taught by old masters of the ivory, but he’s a born improvising musician. He creates tunes on the fly, the irony being that his narcissism allows him to selflessly and freely give out these “worthless” pieces of music. After all, what is momentary music to the grand musician?

Micares is both a base and complex creature, never knowing if he wants to be mysterious and suave or bombastic and avant-garde. It seems his habit of lying is catching up to him.

He hides all his contradictions underneath his perpetual, unchanging smile.
H i s t o r y
The background of a liar is completely useless, considering it has variable amounts of fact and fiction. This applies to Micares, for he changes his narrative on every whim. Ask him on Monday, and he’ll tell you he’s the bastard son of a bastard daughter of a shoemaker. Ask him on Friday, and he’ll tell you he’s from an orphanage run by a blind woman in Wisconsin.

The fact is that he is the product of an Austrian count and a Hungarian ex-aristocrat. Micares’ mother was from Magyar old money but the money was gone and her title was useless. Desperate to reclaim her family’s former glory, she promptly let herself be seduced by the German-speaking count.

The union was not particularly happy, and Micares experienced the brunt of his mother’s obsession with the noble ideal. He was enrolled in various prestigious academies, but he never did well in any of them. His Hungarian was vulgar, his German dismal, and not a word of French could get through him. There were too many King Louises, and Pythagoras could stick a triangle up his arse, for all Micares could care.

The only subject Micares excelled in was music, but the sessions were short and inconsequential. Even in music class, he resisted the stringent order of the compositions he had to play, much to his instructor’s ire. For his mother’s grand project in reviving her noble blood, Micares was deemed a failure.

The expectations of his parents shifted to his younger brother, who was precocious and considered a prodigy. Micares was deeply hurt, his pride and confidence completely shaken. Just like that, he was replaced. He began to resent his family, and later his life in its entirety. Dropping out of the academies at fourteen, he focused solely on his music. Due to receiving less and less attention from his parents, he found it comforting to leave their estate and to go about town anonymously. Micares quickly adopted new loyalties to the lower class and found himself sympathetic to the proletariat cause. He was a rich boy trying very desperately to be poor and pitied.

Alas, no pity came his way, and by sixteen, he was desperate to have his family notice him. Micares orchestrated a complicated plan involving shocking his parents with his dead body hanging on their veranda, but life had other plans. The men he had paid to assist his suicide simply knocked him out with the noose, and when Micares came to, he was on a ship en route to Shanghai.
Micares, who was sure his family thought he had ran away or died, was completely cut off from any support, and for the first time in his life he found himself alone.

Finding nothing to do and nowhere to go, he let himself be shanghaied. Once he reached the Orient, he crossed the Pacific to get to Seattle.

Then eighteen, Micares was quite done with this whole “illegal manual labor” business, and he began to do what he loved the most: play the piano. Under the guise of a Slovakian American, Micares lived his dream. He was an impoverished musician who played to live, with a fervor for justice for his fellow peasants. He got his poverty and pity.

One night, after another successful round in a bar, Micares could hear drums and trumpets, the sound of swift movements in air, and most surprisingly, loud laughing and screaming.

Several tents were perched on the dark horizon, and Micares couldn’t help but feel drawn to the noises. Just one visit, he thought, and he’d be back to work.

He never came back to Seattle.

In all seriousness, his natural voice is quite grating and vulgar, but he smooths and deepens it to keep up with his gentleman facade.

-Left handed.
-Has perfect pitch.
-The scar around his neck is a rope burn. He is humiliated and embarrassed whenever someone sees it.
-All of his collars are detachable, for some reason.
-Contrary to his time in ships, Micares easily gets seasick.
-Has horrible eyesight. He is far too vain to get spectacles, however.
-His name is an alias, which is a corruption of various Slovakian names. (His real name is probably something very German and very long.)
