"HK is still functioning?! After how many millennia?! Force I hope you have him on a short leash!" "And on mute." - The Gatekeeper Personalities of Revan and Meetra Surik regarding HK-47.

A piece of walking history, HK-47 dates all the way back to the Jedi Civil War. Although HK's memory remains fragmented or locked behind various programming protocols, he still retains much of his memory from that era. HK-47 has been traced back to Jedi owners such as Jedi Master Revan and the Jedi Exile Meetra Surik. HK has admitted to missing his original Master, Revan, but acknowledges his absence/death as "one of many flaws becoming of a meatbag."

New Republic Historians and Jedi Master Tionne Solusar have managed to retrace HK's steps all the way back to the Clone Wars where, at some point prior to 3500 BBY, he was onboard an Old Republic Hammerhead Cruiser that crash landed on Mustafar and went undiscovered until the Clone Wars. From there his history becomes a little blurred as rumors of a droid army, a group of spacers, and various other strange incidents on Mustafar are rumored to have taken place. Imperial Records recovered from the Emperor's Vault has helped fill in some of the gaps. Apparently in 1 ABY the Empire caught wind of the "Droid Army" and learned of the ancient assassin droid. The Emperor dispatched Darth Akul, his secret apprentice, to capture HK-47. Akul did as instructed and its believed that HK-47 spent the next twenty years serving Akul.

HK-47 reappeared in 28 ABY on Rattatak in the abandoned lair once utilized by Count Dooku during the Clone Wars. There he had been assigned to lie in wait for the arrival of his target: Jedi Padawan Anakin Solo. However, HK ended up fighting Jedi Master K'Kruhk, Jedi Knights Kento Marek, Jacen & Jaina Solo, Padawans Anakin Solo and Tahiri Velia, and the droid R2-D2 before being disabled by an Ion Grenade from Bounty Hunter Ailyn Vel. The grenade scrambled HK's targeting parameters and caused him to assume Anakin was his Master and not his target. HK suspected this was the case but his programming identified Anakin as his master and thus could do him no harm. This has ended up working to Anakin's favor as HK ended up saving him and his friends on several occasions. HK has loyally stood at his master's side ever since.

HK's homicidal tendencies coupled with a somewhat "chatty" personality has made him a somewhat unwanted presence, especially around the Jedi Temples and in the Chancellor's Office. His status as an Assassin Droid is kept secret and he is passed off as a personal battle droid, a smokescreen that HK supports. It's known that, at some point, HK-47 encountered fellow Assassin Droid IG-88, the two becoming heated rivals. The two droids view each other as inferior with 88 viewing HK as obsolete by 4000 years and with HK viewing 88 as a rank amateur.

Although his programming is nearly 4000 years old, his body is significantly newer, constructed almost a year after the Battle of Yavin. His arms are equipped with several useful weapons and tools such as a flame thrower and a stunner. His right and left legs have secret compartments hidden in the outside thigh plating allowing him to store blasters and even lightsabers if necessary. HK's head is equipped with an antenna that allows him to intercept various signals and transmissions as well as broadcast short range jamming signals or send transmissions without the use of a comlink. He possesses all the programming of a basic protocol droid, enabling him to masquerade as one if necessary.

And one habit he still carries and has ever since his earliest years serving with his first master, is his tendency to refer to organics as "Meatbags."

I should note that he's holding two blasters because I couldn't get his hands and arms to bend correctly for just the one.
