Disclaimer: The information below is not to be considered canon in Battlestar Galactica Lore and represents part of a "what-if" head canon scenario in my mind for an alternate universe, similar to the one created as the backstory for the "Battlestar Galactica: War of the Colonies" mod.

The 2CW Universe (Second Cylon War) is a what-if scenario where the initial surprise attack on the Colonies is mostly thwarted but not enough to prevent certain events from happening, like Laura Roslin becoming President via succession for example. The universe uses information from the series, Blood & Chrome, and Deadlock as well as several other fan works for inspiration.

"It's one of the old Throwing Stars from the first war, but it seems different." "Different is right! We've got a lot of raiders incoming!" "How many?" "Too many!" - Col. Saul Tigh, Lt. Felix Gaeta, and Rdml. William Adama.

History:
First deployed in the final years of the First Cylon War, the Salacia Class Basestar originally served a more Cylon-esque, ordinance centric replacement for the Revenant Class Gunships that had been in use since the early years of the war. The Salacia Class served for the duration of the war and like the rest of the Cylon warships in service during that time, disappeared behind the Armistice Line. But like several other late-war Cylon vessels, it made a reappearance with the outbreak of the Second Cylon War. First re-encountered a month after the initial attacks on the Colonies, the Salacia Basestars were first encountered reinforcing Cylon battlegroups from afar, deploying swarms of Raiders into the fray.

Technical Information:
The Salacia Class Basestar, like the Cerberus Class Super Carriers developed earlier in the war, represents a transitional design in the Cylons' ship development, by making use of the circular hulls of the common Basestar with the Y shaped design of the Argos Class. The Salacia Class though was designed as a mid-to-long range assault vessel meant to withstand heavy punishment while dishing out much of its own. The Salacia Class had a heavier focus on firepower and carried fewer Raiders than most Baseships did at the time. The Salacia's profile was shorter than the average Basestar's, having a very narrow space between its two saucer sections. The Salacia filled the same role in the First War that is now occupied by the larger and more conventionally armed Cronos Class Light Basestar while the Salacia has seen extensive refits, transforming it from a cruiser to more of an attack carrier.

The Second War Era Salacia Class has been refit into an armed carrier, with much of its armaments being removed and replaced with large numbers of docking ports for Cylon Raiders, the ports better known as "Toast Racks" by Colonial Forces. The Salacias now carry less than half of their First War armaments but have easily doubled if not tripled their Raider compliments from their First War variants. The Salacia Class is considered now to be a replacement for the First War's Arachne Attack Carriers and Cerberus Super Carriers. The Salacia in its original configuration held the record for the fewest Raiders carried by a Cylon Basestar, but now since its refit it has stolen the record for the most Raiders carried by a Cylon Baseship, carrying roughly twenty to thirty more Raiders than the older and larger Cerberus Class Super Carriers.

Despite its rounded shape, the Salacia does have a true "front" to it unlike the rounded Basestars known for habitually rotating.
