Here's my update of Brainy. I really played with the idea of Smurfs not having the exact same body-type here. My idea of Brainy is that he was sickly as a Smurfling. He had to spend a lot of time in bed, and so Papa gave him books to pass the time. He spent so much time reading that he got eyestrain, so Papa made him the spectacles so he could see better.

I see him as more sympathetic than he was on the show or in the original comics. It was almost like they were saying, "Boy, those nerdy guys who think they're smarter than everyone else are sure annoying." I would make him the character that the audience sympathizes with, kind of like Clumsy was in the recent movie.
