When I say powerful I mean that the size of the canvas is small but what you paint onto it is very striking. In a gallery it would still stand out amongst large work. Does that make sense? 
I know a lot of artists who work on a large scale because they think big is better, it graps viewers attention, but I dont agree, look at the Mona Lisa that is not a large work, and people queue for hours to have a look.
