Description I finally found some blue berries at an affordable price in the super market! So I had some fun

I hope you like it - please tell me what you think I don't know why, but I really like the way the berry in focus isn't perfect, but rather has some remains of the otherwise long-gone flower left on it

The whole series:

What could I have done better in this photo? Do you think the colors are too pale? Is the composition and depth of field good enough? I would appreciate any help with the techniques - and don't hold the critique back, I only submit photos to the group to get better at what I do!

Finally, I would also really love to hear which of the four photos in the series you like the best, and why

Thank you so very much for this wonderful critique! It's very appreciated

No problem. That one's okay, but this one is better. In my opinion.

it wouldnt really fit with the rest of the series but if all the blurry blueberries in the backround were slightly blue i think that could look cool

Heh, it took me some time to realize that these are blueberries...Probably because as you already mentioned, they look very pale and not quite blue
But I think that's an interesting aspect, they first reminded me of stones when I saw them. It's nice to have a photo that catches your attention, simply because it doesn't follow standards like colour.
I think the focus is ok, nothing spectacular, but I think an other depth of field would distract too much.
Finally, from this series I like this one the best. It has a good composition and interesting crop. But I think I would like to see it with stronger, and brighter colours too.

Hmmm oh they're blueberries! took me a while to realize that before looking at the title lol.

Weeeeell... They do look pretty pale, it's actually surprisingly pale. I've never seen blueberries like this. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to achieve with the shot though. Are you trying to show that something blue gets pale over time too? If that's the case then you pretty much got it since they don't look blue at all.

I personally don't really think it looks very "pretty," I guess it's the fact that the blueberries seem to have little scar things on them, makes them look old and uninteresting as a shot. IF that's the style you were going for, then I think it could've been portrayed with greater magnitude with some different lighting, or just leave the blueberries out a few days longer lol.

I think either 3 or 4 would be better a shot than this, I especially like 4 a lot but that's just me I think. 3 has a lot of great artistic values as well and in general it looks like a much better composition.

Hope I was able to help!

Hello

The berries look a little dry. It's not the color, it's the fact of it texture. That's the only problem I see here.

I would say my favorite one out of the four would be the one with the water drop. It's different from the other three. I also like the focus of the berry with the water drop while the others are blurred.

Nice job

Hey!

Here's my attempt at feedback, and keep in mind that a lot of this is personal preference. XD

In order of your questions... I personally think the color is too drab. It is not eyecatching; I thought it was a photo of boulders at first. But if you were to capture the natural bright blue color of the fruit, it would definitely be more interesting.

Your focus is exactly where it should be: on the tip of the blueberry. It is clear and sharp. The surrounding berries are appropriately blurry. Nice depth of field, and interesting composition. (It makes you go, "what is this?", and then you realize it's a blueberry.)

As for which one I like best, I've been staring at it for like a minute but I don't think I have a favorite. They all have their strengths.

Overall, really great shot! Keep submitting to #GimmeFeedback .

Oh, I should mention... don't mess with the layers in Photoshop for this. You'll get a result that looks unnatural. Maybe fuss a bit with the Levels function?

This is a great macro and you've captured wonderful detail but I'd like to see a little more color, personally. Someone earlier mentioned "juicy" which is what we expect to see. The lack of color makes it feel kind of desolate. Perhaps that's the effect you're going for? The DOF is great and I have to say I prefer this one or perhaps the 3rd one the best.

I like the texture of the blueberries and the foxus a lot. Visually, it's really interesting. I think either you desaturated it a little too much or maybe they were just pale to begin with, but if you added some blue color in there I think it would pop more. This is crazy good, though. Who would have though photographing fruit could be such an art?

Bozack In reply to foamazoid [2010-01-18 06:27:07 +0000 UTC]

I wish the colors were a little less pale. The depth of field is good. I wish the bottom berry would have been shown a little more though. I also think you could have added a little more contrast.

I like the first photo of the series most. I'm not entirely sure why though. I like the way you can see the rigid edge of the berry.

At first glance, I thought these were made of stone!
That isn't necessarily bad..it's what made me click on it. Anyone can take pictures of fruit, so you have to have something that sets you apart. This, I think you have done, with your color choices. As for you being a macro photographer...you have captured the texture of the Blueberry flesh perfectly. Before doing photo-manip and other types of digital art, I played with photography, so I can definitely appreciate the clear, crisp imaging.

I think this may be my favorite one based on the texture and angle of the shot. Great job!
